Lake Annecy water temperature. Traveling around France

One glance is enough to imagine that this picturesque French resort town has stepped out of the medieval paintings of an unknown artist. called “Savoy Venice”, since it is completely permeated with many canals and streams that originate in the lake of the same name. Many travelers rush here to visit the so-called “most beautiful village in France.”

  1. Kiss on the Lovers' Bridge to be together forever

It is also a city of artists and colorful festivals. What is there to do in Annecy? Of course, walk along its medieval streets and paved sidewalks, admire the skillful masterpieces of artisans and artists, cute old houses, and get to know the history of the country better. Well, try delicious Italian ice cream. And young people do not miss the chance to kiss on the famous Lovers' Bridge.

City of Flowers

Many artists and directors capture the city in their works and films. And how can you not see the beauty of this city if the local residents themselves do everything to make it truly beautiful. The main decorative element is flowers. They are in vases and pots, in flower beds and in decorative crafts. The city has an incredible aroma of flowers!

It seems as if there is a carnival going on here all the time - everything is decorated and everything is festive. Annecy has an atmosphere of romance, comfort and antiquity. And to this beauty, created by human hands, was added a picturesque landscape: the alpine fragrance of nature with green hills and a clear lake.

Sights worth admiring

Everyone who comes to Annecy for the first time rushes to see Island Palace. In the middle of the Tew channel, on a small island there is a small but very interesting building, built in the 12th century. It seems that the palace simply “rose” out of the water. In the Middle Ages, it belonged to the vassals of the Genevan counts, then became the residence of Helen of Luxembourg. Later within its walls there was a prison and a city court. Today in the Island Palace there is Annecy History Museum.

One of the impressive medieval buildings is Castle of the Dukes of Savoy, which towers over the old town. The castle burned several times in a row. Then in the 17th century the counts abandoned it and it served as a military barracks. After the war, the Castle was bought and restored. Now located in the chateau Museum of Alpine Art, which presents an exhibition of sculptures and paintings by local authors, as well as Museum of Local Lore with furniture and household items, an interesting city photo archive. The Queen's Tower houses an observatory, and the Perrier Tower houses a popular science collection and an aquarium with live fish that live in the local lake. The observation deck offers stunning views of Old Annecy.

In the center of Annecy, right next to the Canal Saint-Dominique, you can see a beautiful Gothic Church of Saint Maurice. It was built as a classical Dominican church and is the oldest in the city. The famous local nobleman and adviser to the Dukes of Burgundy and Savoy, Philibert de Montoux, is buried there. Above the tombstone is a magnificent fresco. Inside the church there is a very interesting painting that creates a certain illusion of three-dimensionality. It is worth paying attention to the carved church chairs and the throne held by the colossus. Saint Maurice is the patron saint of all Savoy, and of course Annecy.

In general, there are quite a lot of churches in Annecy. And if you walk along Russo Street, you can see another famous temple - Saint Paul's Cathedral, where Jean-Jacques Rousseau once sang in the choirs. Later, in his manuscript “Confession,” he described in detail the life of this lovely town.

Incredibly beautiful Visitacion Church, which houses the relics of Bishop Francis de Sales. At one time, he led the Counter-Reformation movement and did a lot for the spiritual development of Annecy. Thanks to this man, the city became a true citadel of Catholicism. After the bishop's death, the Vatican canonized him as a saint. This basilica is young, built in the 30s of the last century. Inside the cathedral, you can admire elaborate stained glass windows depicting scenes from the lives of Francis de Sales and Jeanne de Chantal, founder of the Order of Visitantes and fellow bishop, who was also beatified.

Kiss on the Lovers' Bridge to be together forever

There is such a sign in the city that if you kiss on Lovers' Bridge, then you will never part with a young man (or girl). Therefore, here you can see couples in love, of different ages, just standing and kissing. Romance! The bridge looks much nicer from the side when boats float underneath it on the quiet surface of the canal, and artists sit next to it on the alley, setting up easels and painting city landscapes or commissioned portraits. After all, the bridge offers stunning views of the mountains and lake

Garden of Europe

A few steps from the Lovers' Bridge there is a small peninsula. Today there is a recreation park on it, which is called Garden of Europe. It was built as an English park. The park has a small lake with Swan Island in the middle.

Local residents and travelers come here to sit on a bench in the shade of the alleys and relax, admire the unique statues and beautiful decorative fountains, and take a boat ride on the lake.

The quiet surface of Lake Annecy

The city's lake of the same name attracts tourists as well as the sights of Annecy. It is considered the cleanest body of water in the world. Formed Lake Annecy due to the melting of alpine glaciers many millennia ago. And the water level is maintained by the mountain rivers that flow into it. Several resort centers have been built around the lake where tourists relax.

Very often you can see paragliders above the lake, who begin their flight from the top of a 1300-meter mountain. Annecy hosts the largest paragliding competition in the world. Excursion boats ply on the lake all year round (since the lake does not freeze in winter), and you can enjoy beautiful scenery and see small settlements around the lake (for example, the towers of the Menton-Saint-Bernard castle are clearly visible on the hill). You can also rent a bicycle and go for a walk along the lake and through the mountain hills.

Festivals in Annecy

In summer there are many vacationers on the lake. You can easily swim here, because... the temperature warms up to +21-23*C. Also held in June International Film Animation Festival. Takes place in July blues festival, but in August it will be fun to relax at an exciting event - Lake Festival, when there are musical performances, light and pyrotechnic shows. Folk dances and songs, fairs and concerts take place during Alpine Harvest Festival, which is traditionally held in Annecy on the second Sunday in October.

How to get to Annecy

You can get to Annecy in an hour or two by train from Lyon or Geneva (ticket costs about 20 euros), or from Paris (a little longer - 3.5 hours, ticket costs 80 euros). It even has its own small airport, which receives domestic flights and planes from Switzerland and some European cities. And regular buses run from Geneva.

In general, if you are tired of stress and want to enjoy peace and tranquility, go to. The city, with its streets and bridges, promenades and lantern alleys, lovely water canals and magnificent views of the surrounding area, has a magical healing effect...

You can read about how our site works in the article

The town of Annecy and its lake are famous throughout Savoy. Compared to Lake Geneva, which is nearby, the water in Annecy is incomparably cleaner, and many people choose it as a holiday destination.

There have already been several articles on Charming Annecy, to which I personally am very partial, on Difficulty.net - about its main attractions - “Annecy: A Romantic Resort Town in Savoy” and a photo report from winter Annecy. Many who ski in the Alps wonder whether, for example, it’s worth taking a break from skiing and going to Annecy for a day in winter. Of course, worth it at any time of the year.

But I couldn’t ignore the topic of summer holidays in Annecy, because there is so much entertainment on the lake, and it itself is one of the main centers of attraction for residents of the region and a huge number of tourists.

Thanks to special environmental protection measures taken in the region since the 1960s, Lake Annecy is today considered one of the cleanest in Europe, and the first tourists flocked here already in the 19th century, attracted by the romantic mountain and lake views. The final absorption of Savoy by France in 1860, however, did not affect the character and traditions of the lands of the former independent and powerful state. There are many local specialties here that take their history from the gastronomic traditions of the historical region of Savoy. Pay special attention to cheeses called Reblochon and Tome des Bauges, local fish from the lake served in Annecy restaurants, local white wines, as well as chocolate and all kinds of chocolate products.

So, what to do in Annecy in summer. Firstly, of course, sunbathe and swim on numerous comfortable beaches (photo below) both near the Old Town of Annecy and located further away from it around the lake. Lake Annecy's website lists 13 beaches, but in fact there are many more. Beaches of Annecy. The water temperature in the lake in summer averages 24 degrees.

Secondly, the most popular type of outdoor activity here is to discover Annecy and its surroundings by bicycle, along specially laid out routes. Cruises on boats and yachts are also incredibly popular. There are several excursion companies operating in Annecy that will not only take you from point A to point B along the lake, but will also provide you with a guide (for foreigners, there are mainly English-speaking staff, although it is possible that you can find a Russian-speaking guide).

The list of active activities, including extreme ones, that you can experience in Annecy is truly huge: here you can find paragliding, diving, water skiing, yachting, kayaking, water safari, flying over the mountains in a hot air balloon, gyrocopter and much more. In short, a traveler of any age, health and physical fitness will find something suitable here for themselves.

Annecy has its own Lake Festival with a grand 70-minute musical and pyrotechnic show, which takes place on the first Saturday in August. This holiday dates back to 1860, the time of the annexation of Savoy to France and the solemn events in the “Venetian style” on this occasion in Annecy in honor of Napoleon III. At various times, the Annecy Lake Festival with fireworks attracted up to 200,000 spectators at a time.

Other important events in Annecy and its surroundings:

Venice Carnival (in 2019 it will be held from March 15 to 17). It’s not for nothing that Annecy is called the “French Venice,” and the “mask shows” on the streets of the Old Town and against the backdrop of its canals really resemble crazy Italian carnivals.

"King of the Lake" is a wakesurfing competition (on a board without bindings) that attracts hundreds of athletes. Competitions are accompanied by broadcasts on large screens, parties, concerts, etc. For everyone.

From November 23, 2018 to January 6, 2019, Christmas celebrations and performances will take place in Annecy. Every year the Christmas festivities have a new theme.

Calendar of other events in Annecy (and there are many of them!).

Summer photos of Annecy and the lake

The old town of Annecy is decorated with flowers in the summer, although, of course, it is far from the “flower madness” of the village of Yvoire located in Savoy.

The main attraction of Annecy is the Palais de L'Iles.

A cafe with the most original chairs in the Old Town of Annecy, which constantly has problems with customers. Apparently, visitors are slightly afraid of such beauty.

The old town of Annecy is quite large, so you won’t be able to learn it by heart in a day or two of walking.

Small fountains gush out from the lake. During holidays and celebrations, the embankment is decorated and the fountains are beautifully illuminated.

Picnics on the grass near the lake are the most favorite pastime of the townspeople. The photo shows a pre-wedding bachelorette party...

And this is not a gay pride parade, but guys from a bachelor party.

The purity of the water, which is protected and proud of in Annecy, is at its best.

Around the lake, as I already mentioned, there are 13 equipped beaches. One of the closest and most comfortable to the city is near the Imperial Hotel, entrance is 4-5 euros for the whole day. There is everything you need to have a great time here.

Hello everyone:) After a certain break, we continue to publish our notes about a wonderful autumn trip to France and more!

After a busy day in the Franche Comté region, we reached an amazing place - the Haute-Savoie department of the Rhone-Alpes region.
It is surprising, first of all, for its natural views! Our goal is Lake Annecy (lac D "annecy) - this is the second largest lake in France (lake dimensions: 14.6 km by 3.2 km; maximum depth - 82 m). In addition to its impressive size, the lake is known for its magnificent view: The perimeter is surrounded by the picturesque Alps mountains, and the water is so clear that it seems you can see the bottom at any depth!

The purity of the water in the lake is a pattern of history: firstly, the lake is more than 18,000 years old and was “born” as a result of the melting of high-mountain and pure alpine glaciers; secondly, the lake is currently replenished with the waters of small mountain rivers (the water of which is also crystal clear); and thirdly, in the 20th century the lake was specially cleaned with modern machines, and they say they even overdid it, because... In the lake, due to a lack of various substances and waste products, salmon ceased to be found, so it was necessary to artificially pollute it a little))
As a result, Annecy is considered the cleanest lake in Europe!

On a sunny day, the water is exceptionally azure in color - an amazing view!

In general, the place is truly picturesque! But first things first!

In the evening of the 8th day of our trip, we arrived at our overnight destination - the small town (village) of Duingt. According to our plan for Lake Annecy (lac D "annecy) we had to spend 2 busy days:
- Day 9 of the trip - a cycling day around the lake with a visit to the town of Annecy;
- Day 10 of the trip - a trekking day with an ascent to the highest point of the local Alps - Mount Tournai (2,351 meters).

Upon check-in, we agreed with the hosts about the possibility of using their bicycles (we did this in advance by email), in the evening we prepared for tomorrow’s run: we looked at the weather forecast (it was positive), took out bicycle accessories and stocked up on ourselves!

Here is a schematic plan of our cycling day (Duenne (Duenne) - Annecy - Duen (Duenne):

In the morning, as planned, we took out the bikes, put them in working order and rode! What can we say about the cycle path around Annecy?! Everything is done for the people!
To confirm this, a small video from hands)

Firstly, a significant part of the route follows separate asphalt bike paths; secondly, even if there is no special bicycle path, then you can move along highways, where traffic, although there is traffic, cannot be called intense, moreover, local drivers are very law-abiding and, according to signs, pass cyclists at a distance of 1.5 meters - Therefore, we didn’t feel much tension! The views along the way mesmerized us! A great way to explore the lake! As they say, combine business with pleasure!))

One underground tunnel specially designed for cyclists is worth it!

The bike route around the lake was about 40 kilometers, and given the excellent conditions, it could be covered quite quickly. But we didn’t succeed, because the most difficult thing about the trip around the lake was not allowing ourselves to stop every 10 meters to take photographs)
Therefore, we decided to discipline ourselves and simply eat beauty with our eyes!))

During the trip, completely different, but certainly breathtaking landscapes opened up: here is a pompous castle on the neighboring shore of the lake, here are mountain ranges covered with colorful autumn forest, here is a small town with its own chapel... The list is simply endless!

We are convinced that a bike ride around the lake will be appreciated not only by amateur cyclists like us, but also by professionals! After all, part of the route ran through mountain serpentines (and mountain biking fans will be able to design a route of any complexity of climbs).

But lovers of two-wheeled companions should not be afraid: the ascent segments are not significant; as a last resort, no one forbids overcoming them on foot (in some places we also walked); but imagine what it’s like to roll down the hill! Therefore, we definitely advise all active tourists to use a bicycle to explore the local beauties!

You can rent a bicycle in special stores, or you can, like us, negotiate with the owners of the apartments (this method is both budget-friendly and more convenient (I picked it up near the house and rode it straight home)!

During our first day on Lake Annecy, we realized that this is an ideal place for active people of all ages!

See for yourself: there is a great one bike network, allowing you to take a ride, breathe clean air, and even admire the surrounding beauty; I have an opportunity run around the lake (in a number of places there are separate excellent paths for running), and for those who already or cannot yet run and ride a bike, you can actively walk(we also saw such people);

The presence of a lake means the opportunity for various activities water sports: rowing, sailing, windsurfing, and finally fishing and swimming!

There are more “calm” options for relaxing on the water - trips on ships, boats, catamarans...;

The presence of mountains allows you to practice Mountaineering, mountain trekking, various types of aeronautics: paragliding, hang gliding, etc.

And of course that’s not all! On such a relatively small piece of land, the opportunities for active and rewarding activities are almost endless! A real paradise for active tourists!

Moving around the lake, we passed, in addition to small harbors, beautiful mountain landscapes - amazing and very picturesque towns!

But of course, what is most impressive is the natural beauty of the local landscapes; after all, early autumn is an excellent time for travel (a forest of magical flowers, the temperature has not yet had time to drop significantly, there are significantly fewer tourists, and even from a budget point of view this period is much more profitable than, for example , August)!

The most significant stop on our way is a visit to the historical part of the town of Annecy, located on the shores of the lake of the same name!
And this pause is really worth spending 2-3 hours of time!

The entrance to the city is immediately impressive: on the left along the lake there are jogging and cycling paths, on the right in the amazing plane tree alley there is a highway!

Having parked our bikes at a dedicated bike parking lot near the tourist office (45.901523, 6.128401), we set off to explore Annecy! First of all, we looked at the tourist information center, located in the large center (a step away from the bike parking). We received a free city map with routes and a brief description in English, admired the cartoonish Annecy - what more could you wish for! Beauty!

By the way, such a cartoonish image of the city is not an accident! After all, since 1960, the town has hosted the International Film Animation Festival every year!

Annecy is a resort and very soulful town! Even if you don’t know the history, it seems that you are in Italy, the secular and spiritual architecture is very characteristic, the only thing that confuses you is the signs in French. Suspicions about a connection with Italy intensify when studying the menu of local cafes: pizza, pasta... Coincidence - we don’t think so!)) In fact, the Haute-Savoie department actually borders both Italy and Switzerland, and Annecy became a French city only in 1860 .

Thus, this is another border region on our journey! Having visited Alsace, Franche-Comté and Haute-Savoie, it seems to us that we can confidently transfer the well-known saying that spouses of different nationalities give birth to exceptionally talented and wonderful children to these regions! Annecy is wonderful!

Just look at his shops: elegant, inviting and very authentic! Admire it for yourself!

For example, the last shop sold such wonderfully smelling spices that it was impossible to pass by! The prices are, of course, steep, but we sincerely advise you to come in and plunge into the world of aromas!

The town is cozy, you can just walk around and enjoy its light atmosphere and beauty. Additional charm is added by the small canals into which the Tiu River has been placed. Some even compare Annecy with Venice (which city on the water has not been compared to Venice). But unlike many cities, Annecy's canals are only partially filled with water most of the year (depth is about 1 - 2 meters), and only when the lake overflows do the canals become fuller!

In the town it is pleasant to find various little things (the so-called “texture”), which together create the charming atmosphere of Annecy.

The symbol of Savoy is a local cow breed with a department flag!

But modern “art” photography to test your attentiveness - find all the monsters)

The main attractions of Annecy are the palaces, and one of them has a very unusual architecture. It might have remained an ordinary ordinary building if not for its location. Castle on the Island (Palais de L`isle)- the palace has been located on a small piece of land in the middle of the canals of the Tiu River for about 9 centuries! The authorities, architectural styles, and purposes of the palace have changed, but it has stood here since the 12th century and has not been shaken!) Judge for yourself, within the walls of the palace there were chambers for the Geneva counts, Helen of Luxembourg, offices of justice, the Chamber of Accounts, there was even a prison... Reasonable that now there is a city museum here!

In general, tourists like it; it’s convenient to take pictures while standing on the bridge, when there is such an unusual architectural monument behind you: personally, it reminded us of an old iron))

The second palace, it's powerful Lock located above the old part of the city! Of course it belonged to the Counts of Geneva.

The oldest part of the structure (13th century) has survived to this day - the Queen's Tower with walls more than 4.5 meters thick. Such an impenetrable fortress!

Currently, the castle complex is used for museum premises, so entrance to the territory is already paid!

Annecy is a very religious city. Here you can find both Catholic churches and Protestant churches.

The treasure of Annecy, in our opinion, is also his embankment- the most beautiful part of the town!

The green corner is especially impressive - Garden of Europe!

A favorite place for relaxation for city residents with cozy benches and shady alleys in the English style, which appeared in 1863.
The park is quite large, and most importantly, environmentally friendly!

There is also a favorite place in the park among young people - the Lovers' Bridge (yes, where you definitely need to kiss), you won't miss it - it is quite impressive in size, and the view from it is no less stunning!

Interestingly, Annecy was one of the 3 candidates when choosing the capital of the XXIII Winter Olympic Games in 2018, but unfortunately, like Munich, it was surpassed by the Korean Pyeongchang. And in vain! Let the organizers look at the next photo and regret!))

Annecy left an excellent impression of a small and neat town with beautiful architecture and amazing views!
We needed to get to our Duen before dark (it was less than 20 km from Annecy), so we went further around the lake.

The incredibly beautiful Lake Annecy, located in the department of Haute-Savoie in the pre-Alpine region of France, is the second largest inland body of water in the Republic and a popular place for a “cool” beach holiday. The city of the same name can boast a considerable number of significant historical attractions, including a medieval castle and a palace on an island in the center of the city canal. And in small resorts along the shores of the lake you can have a great rest surrounded by very beautiful nature, amid silence and in blessed solitude.

Prices on the page are as of August 2018.

Climate of the region

Lake Annecy is influenced by a temperate continental climate. Winters here are moderately mild, but snowy, and summers are moderately hot. The average winter temperature ranges from 0.. +5 °C. At the same time, it can be chilly on the lake shores even when the thermometer is positive, the reason for which is increased air humidity and frequent piercing winds. In summer, the air in the region warms up to +23.. +27 °C, the water temperature in July and August is +22.. +24 °C, so even the “frosted” and “frozen” can enjoy swimming.

Lake Annecy Resorts

The city of Annecy is the capital of the Haute-Savoie department and the main tourist center of the region. Annecy traces its history back to the 14th century, when a massive stone castle was built here - the residence of the Counts of Savoy. The core of the city gradually grew into residential areas - and today the historical center of Annecy is a labyrinth of narrow medieval streets lined with colorful mansions. Another feature of Annecy is the large number of canals dividing the city into many islands (on one of them the amazing Island Palace was built), for which Annecy received the unofficial name of the Venice of Savoy. Well, several landscaped areas of the coast are responsible for a beach holiday here. Among the best are the sandy beach Imperial (from 4 to 7 EUR), Marquise beach (grass) and the oldest beach on the lake, Albigny beach (in the old town of Annecy) - also grass.

Veyrier-du-Lac is a charming place on the east bank of Annecy. There are only a few private guesthouses available to tourists in the town, and nothing disturbs the silence of these places even at the height of the season. There are two beaches in Veyrier-du-Lac - a modern and well-maintained Brune with a sandy strip in front of the entrance to the water, an extensive grass lawn with sun loungers and a smooth decrease in depth and a democratic Plan.

Talloire is another picturesque town on the southeastern shore of Lake Annecy. There are almost no historical buildings here, and the attractions are colorful mansions under tiled roofs with the inevitable flowerpots in front of the entrance. Beach lovers will find several excellent beaches here: the very spacious municipal one, the modern sandy and grassy Angon and the picturesque Espace Lac surrounded by lush vegetation.

Sevrier, on the western shore of the lake a few kilometers south of Annecy, offers holidaymakers the bliss of a secluded holiday in a picturesque pre-Alpine region and the subtle charm of French provincial life. You can relax on a hot summer day at the municipal beach. It is sandy and grassy, spacious and planted with spreading trees, so the lack of umbrellas does not at all spoil the rest.

Saint-Jorio is a secluded village south of Sevrier. The shore here naturally juts out into the blue expanses of the lake, and on this picturesque cape there is an excellent sandy beach with a gentle entry into the water and a smooth decrease in depth. An added bonus is the breathtaking scenery of the Alpine peaks on the opposite side of Annecy.

Lake Annecy

Attractions of Lake Annecy and the surrounding area

In addition to the numerous attractions of the city of Annecy, almost every lake resort makes a feasible (and often very interesting) contribution to the regional “excursion program”.

The Tree and Forest Ecomuseum in the town of Ton will tell you about the beauty of local landscapes and teach you about the intricacies of dendrology; You can also see an exact replica of a 19th century sawmill here. In Saint-Jorio, you should definitely visit the Lodon Local Museum, the exhibition of which will introduce you to the village life of the 19th century. The Butterfly Museum in Faverges displays more than 4,500 exhibits from five continents. The "Secret Gardens" in Vaud are almost 7000 square meters. m of flower beds, themed gardens, fountains and incredible garden pavilions. In Lovagny, you should definitely take a walk to the Fier Canyon, created by centuries-old river flow at a depth below 25 m of sea level, and visit the medieval castle of Montrotier, which displays a valuable collection of furniture, faience, lace and weapons from all over the world. Sevrier is interesting with the eco-museum of Lake Annecy. And of course, each resort has its own observation deck on the slope of the “home” peak, from which a magnificent view of the lake and the Alps opens.
