For those who want to plunge into the thick of the festive events, we advise you to plan a visit to Barcelona in September, when two major events are celebrated at once: on September 11, Catalan Independence Day and on September 24, local residents walk for several days in honor of Our Lady of Mercy, the patroness of the city. And for a leisurely and measured holiday, we recommend coming in the spring, when it is already warm, but there are still few tourists.

Columbus Monument

Monument to Christopher Columbus on the coast of Barcelona

It is no coincidence that the monument to the great navigator was erected on the shores of Barcelona, because it was here that Christopher Columbus completed his most important voyage in his life. The weight of the structure, installed in 1888, is 205 tons, and its height reaches 60 meters.

The monument consists of three parts. This is a round base, an octagon-shaped pedestal and a Corinthian column with a statue of Columbus, the height of which is just over seven meters. The hand of the statue is directed towards the new land discovered by the navigator, and inside it there is an elevator that can lift those who wish to a height of 60 meters to visit the observation deck.

  • The monument is located at the point where the Ramblas ends and the old port area begins.
  • You can get to the attraction by metro - this is Drassanes station (on the third line).

Casa Batllo - the work of Antoni Gaudi

The unusual, unique and amazing Casa Batllo is another creation of the hands of Antoni Gaudi. There are absolutely no straight lines in the architecture of this building. The silhouette of the roof ridge of this house resembles the back of a dragon, and the tiles of different colors are similar to scales sparkling in the sun. The round tower, with a sharp top and a St. George's cross, resembles a spear with which the beast was pierced. The balconies of Casa Batlló can be compared to skulls, and the columns to bones. That is why local residents gave this building a different name - the House of Bones.

Casa Batlló is not only one of Barcelona's most famous landmarks, but also a national monument and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

  • Attraction location: Barcelona, Passeig de Gracia 43.

This incredibly beautiful building, made in the Gothic style, is the main cathedral of the city. This means that this is where the residence of the archbishop is located. The sharp peaks of the cathedral reach into the sky and are clearly visible from all parts of the quarter. The outer side of the building is decorated with many images of various saints, and the facade is decorated with amazing lace carvings. On the roof of the structure you can see a wide variety of animals, both real and mythical.

The interior of the cathedral is decorated with many carvings, frescoes and works of art, which are placed near the altar. Undoubtedly, this spectacle deserves the close attention of every tourist who decides to visit Barcelona.

The houses of the Spanish village are located around the Main Square (Plaza Mayor). They contain various craft workshops, testifying to all the activities for which Spanish craftsmen have been famous throughout the centuries. These are items made of textiles, leather, ceramics, glass and much more.

There is also a flamenco theater, as well as several restaurants. The main goal pursued by the creators of this museum is to give tourists and local residents the opportunity to get acquainted with the cultural and everyday heritage of Spain, its architecture and crafts in one place.

In terms of height, this 142-meter structure ranks third in Barcelona. During the day, the tower surprises tourists with its unusual shape, and at night it fascinates with its beautiful bright lighting. If you take a closer look at the building, you will notice that its windows are not arranged in an orderly manner, but chaotically.

The fact is that the location of the windows was selected using a computer program, after which unique architectural techniques were developed for each floor. 59,619 glass plates are used in the design of the tower. To create colorful lighting for the structure, 4,500 LED lamps were installed in it.

Montjuic is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Barcelona. There are several reasons for this. Firstly, the Montjuic hill, which means “Jewish mountain”, is replete with all sorts of parks, museums, buildings - everything that is interesting to any tourist. Here you can see the famous Magic Fountains, visit the Spanish Village, see the Joan Miró Foundation Museum and much more.

Another reason to climb Montjuic Hill is to enjoy the wonderful view of the city.

This hill is also an important part of the history of the city, because the Montjuic fortress was of great importance for the defense of Barcelona.

The castle was built in 1640, and in the mid-18th century it was completely reconstructed under the leadership of Juan Martino Cermeño. At the very end of the 18th century, many large-scale fortification works were carried out in the fortress, after which the building acquired its modern appearance.

While the Frankish regime reigned in the country, many sociologists and politicians of Catalonia were shot in the Montjuic fortress, including Lewis Companys. This is the former president of the country, whose execution took place in October 1940. Until the 60s of the 20th century, the fort was used as a military prison, and then the Weapons Museum opened there.

  • You can get to the hill by tourist bus or by metro along the first and third lines (Plaza Espany station).

The Palace of Catalan Music is a concert hall of incredible beauty, built in the Art Nouveau style. Its opening took place in the winter of 1908. This building is perhaps the only one in all of Europe that has a hall with natural light.

The outlines of the building consist of soft curved lines, which are much more numerous than straight ones. The façade of the building harmoniously combines several different styles. Here tourists can see figures of famous composers such as Ludwig and Beethoven, Richard Wagner, Johann Sebastian Bach and many others.

But the most unique part of this palace is the concert hall, which amazes with the beauty of its ceiling. The fact is that the ceiling of the hall is a glass dome made of mosaics of different colors. This solution allows this huge room to be illuminated naturally throughout the day.

The Palace of Catalan Music is attractive not only for connoisseurs of musical art. It is also an important landmark, which without exaggeration can be called the pearl of modernist Barcelona.

  • Palace address: Sant Pere Més Alt, Barcelona.
  • You can get to it by buses (17, 19, 40, 45), or by metro along lines 1 and 4 (Urquinaona station).
  • Attraction opening hours: daily from 10 to 15.30. In August and Easter week - from 10 to 18 o'clock.
  • Cost: adults – 18 euros, students – 11 euros.

There are many more attractions in Barcelona than are described in this article, because interesting places are found here at every step.

Sunny, proud, explosive, slightly surreal, captivating with its unique beauty at first sight - these are the only words that can describe the beauty of Barcelona. This ancient Catalan city amazes with its unusual architecture, where medieval cathedrals coexist wonderfully with neo-Gothic buildings and modern monuments.

It would be real madness to list all the attractions of Barcelona, because here they are found at every step. Therefore, to the question “What to see in Barcelona?” You can give only one answer - “Absolutely everything!”

The museums of Barcelona also deserve a visit. Interesting exhibitions can be found in the Picasso Museum, in the military and maritime museums. Only in the Catalan capital, Barça fans can find a museum of the history of this football club, and in the jamón museum you can learn everything about the Spanish dry-cured ham.

Barcelona's parks evoke the sincere admiration of tourists and the envy of neighboring cities, because it is difficult to compete with them in grooming, style and splendor.

    Mount Montjuic

    Montjuic is a famous mountain in the capital of Catalonia. Previously, there was only a medieval fortress on the top of the mountain. But in 1929 the World Exhibition was held here, and 63 years later the 1992 Summer Olympics. For these events, many different structures were erected, which later turned into the main attractions of Barcelona - the National Palace, the Spanish Village, the German Pavilion, and the Olympic venues. The slopes of the mountain are decorated with magnificent gardens and parks.

    Barcelona Aquarium

    More than 10 thousand marine inhabitants are housed in 35 aquariums, each of which is dedicated to a specific type of flora and fauna. The most impressive is the oceanarium - a huge reservoir with a diameter of about 35 m, filled with almost 5 million liters of water, through which an 80-meter glass tunnel with a moving walkway is laid. Through its transparent walls it is very convenient to observe sea inhabitants. For extreme sports enthusiasts, the aquarium offers diving with sharks for 300 euros.

- this is the center of Spain, then Barcelona, without a doubt - this is her heart! This is the largest, most populous and active city on the Mediterranean Spanish coast, the most important ultra-modern commercial and industrial center of the entire Iberian Peninsula and all of Europe, and at the same time it is one of the most visited by tourists from all over the world! And at the same time, this is one of the most cozy, sincere and beautiful cities that will leave absolutely no one indifferent!

According to various opinions, Barcelona was founded either in the 3rd or 2nd century BC, but it can be said for sure that by the 5th century the influence of the city had become truly enormous. During its history, it has seen many ups and downs, but it has survived and retained its originality. The hosting of the 1992 Summer Olympics here was of great importance for the development of the city’s tourism infrastructure. Today, the city is visited annually by about 6 million tourists and not a single one is left disappointed.

Main attractions

Few cities in the world can boast as many attractions as Barcelona. Therefore, I will selectively describe here only those monuments that impressed me the most, which are called the very best in this city, and which can be seen in one or two days.

It was once calculated that it would not be possible to examine them all in a year, even if you spent 5 hours every day on it!

Gothic Quarter

I would like to start with the oldest part of the city – the Gothic Quarter. If you look at the map, it is located between Plaza Catalunya, La Rambla and Via Laetan. The chaotic medieval buildings are completely preserved here, the streets wind between gloomy knowledge, many of which were built 5-6 centuries ago. Some streets are only 2–3 meters wide and are closed to traffic.

You can wander around the Gothic quarter all day long, enjoying the spirit of history, from time to time stumbling upon a small square with a fountain, an old church with an austere facade, a tiny cafe or souvenir shop, and then, quite unexpectedly, you emerge onto the busy La Rambla with its shining shop windows, living statues, street musicians, galleries, cafes. This walk can be taken many times, certainly discovering more and more new, unexplored corners.

Temple of the Sagrada Familia

The Sagrada Familia is the most recognizable symbol of Barcelona, its shrine, one of the most famous long-term construction projects in the world. The construction of the temple has been going on for more than 130 years - since 1883. Its creator, the famous Catalan architect Antonio Gaudi, repeatedly changed and supplemented the appearance of the temple during the construction process, and it is unknown what the building would have been like if he had continued to work on its construction.

I can’t find words to convey, at least in general terms, the admiration and awe that this amazing creation generates. I will not describe in special terms the features of the architectural details of the church or evaluate its artistic significance, but will only say that the expression “breathtaking” is exactly applicable to what I experienced when I saw these facades, these sculptures, this modeling!

After spending more than an hour contemplating the appearance of the temple, it seemed to me that I could not be more surprised by anything, but as soon as I went inside... No, I won’t even try to convey all this in words - look at the photographs! I can only say that Gaudi is truly a great creator, infinitely great!

To fully enjoy the beauty of Spain and then you will experience complete freedom of movement around this beautiful country.

Do you like massage? Experience an unforgettable experience.

Casa Batllo

Everyone knows that the architect Antonio Gaudi built more than one building in Barcelona - today there are even separate tours of his many masterpieces. For everyone, the most impressive building is one of its own, and for me, Casa Batlló was such a building.

The name itself translates as “house of bones” because, according to the author’s idea, the internal columns appear in the form of bones, and the balconies in the form of skulls!

Casa Batlló is famous for the fact that its façade and interior design contain virtually no straight lines; each detail seems to flow into the next. The tiles and stained glass windows decorating the façade are very delicate and add elegance to the house.

Personally, I was simply captivated by the fact that Gaudi built and designed his buildings the way he wanted, without regard to architectural styles and accepted standards, leaving art critics to invent new names and terms for his masterpieces.

Mount Tibidabo and the Church of the Sacred Heart of Christ

Tourists are attracted like a magnet by Mount Tibidabo, which rises 500 meters and gives the opportunity to see the entire city stretching at the foot of the mountain. You can get here by cable car, which often has long queues. At the top of the mountain there is a city television tower with an observation deck, an amusement park and a robot museum. But all this pales in comparison to the Church of the Sacred Heart of Christ with a huge statue of Christ crowning the building.

The temple consists of two parts, which were built throughout the first half of the twentieth century. If you look at it from the foot of the hill, then the lower part, the base of the temple, is invisible - it can only be seen close up. The church itself is very beautiful, it impresses with its size and the richness of its interior and exterior decoration, but I was even more captivated by the view from Mount Tibidabo, which, alas, is completely indescribable in photographs!

Picasso Museum

I will not list all the museums in Barcelona, because this list could take more than one page. For myself, I immediately decided that my minimum program would be a visit to the Picasso Museum - I definitely couldn’t miss it!

I visited and, of course, was not disappointed. The old mansion displays mostly Picasso's early works, as well as a collection of his ceramics and some mature paintings. I really liked the organization of the museum - everything is convenient, thoughtful, talented and decorated with soul.

Camp Nou Stadium

Well, as a football lover, I simply cannot help but mention the beautiful, legendary Camp Nou stadium - just imagine seeing with your own eyes the field on which Barça plays!! There is a museum of the Barcelona football club here, where all the team's trophies are on display, you can also see some of the players' personal belongings, and if you purchase a tour of the stadium, you can even go down to the locker rooms and go into the commentary booth!

And these are not just all the attractions - this is not even part of them! But it’s impossible to embrace the immensity - come, explore the city, enjoy!

Video - Barcelona

The capital of Catalonia is known throughout the world as one of the most comfortable and livable cities in Europe... It is famous for its excellent climate, developed transport system, abundance of “green areas”, and parks decorated with fountains and statues. Friendly people, cultural life full of exciting events. Watch the main attractions of this beautiful city in the video.

Tourists visiting Spain definitely try to come to Barcelona. The capital of Catalonia is an amazingly beautiful city, which has become a real monument to the architectural genius of Gaudi. When deciding what to see in Barcelona, his masterpieces are included first on the list.

The great architect created 17 projects, 10 of them are located in the main city of the region:

  • Houses of Mila, Batllo, Figueres, Calvet and Vicens;
  • Palace and pavilion of the Güell estate;
  • College of the Order of St. Teresa.

Six of the listed sites are recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites and are included in all tourist guides. The rest also do not go unnoticed by vacationers due to their original architecture.

Montjuic Mountain with its park, singing fountains and the National Palace is of great interest. You should definitely visit the Boqueria market, stroll along the Ramblas and look into the Gothic Quarter. It is recommended to include museums of Picasso, chocolate, and bullfighting in the introductory program.

Let's get acquainted with the creations of Gaudi

You can travel to one of the most interesting corners of Spain in different ways: by purchasing a tour from an agency or on your own. The second option requires a responsible approach to the organization, but provides more freedom in choosing objects. You can determine for yourself what interesting things to see in Barcelona and decide in what order you should see the sights. It’s better to make a list before your trip so as not to waste time on this activity while you’re already on the excursion.

The most popular tourist attractions in the Catalan capital are considered to be the projects of Antoni Gaudi. It is recommended to start exploring the city with them.

Sagrada Familia

The most famous creation of the great architect, the calling card of the Catalan capital, is the Sagrada Familia Temple. The creator devoted 43 years of his life to working on it, but did not see his masterpiece completed. Construction of the Sagrada Familia began 135 years ago and continues to this day.

Sagrada Familia is one of the tallest buildings in the city. It delights with its bizarre shapes and 18 towers. Millions of tourists visit it every year. The city has created conditions for guests to independently reach the popular place. Nearby there is a metro station of the same name, which allows you to quickly reach the temple from any corner of Barcelona.

You can appreciate the beauty of the Sagrada Familia not only from the outside, but also from the inside.

To visit the temple you will have to pay about 13 euros. It is better to book tickets in advance to avoid standing in lines. An audio guide or tour guide will help you learn more about the architectural monument.

The Casa Mila deserves special attention - a landmark recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. This is the last project of the great architect completed during his lifetime. They ordered the house for him as the most unusual. The master did an excellent job. The building turned out to be extravagant, striking with smooth curves creating the illusion of movement. Until now, nothing like this has been created by architects.

The structure was erected as a residential building, but today it houses a bank. Only a few apartments are available for rent. One of them has become a museum and is open to the public. You can get acquainted with exhibits from the early twentieth century every day.

The ticket costs 20.5 euros. Discounts are available for students and children. You can get there by metro (Diagonal station), bus or FGC train.

Another attraction of the Catalan capital, included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, is Casa Batllo. Built at the end of the 19th century, it was completely modified by Antoni Gaudi. Remodeling work was carried out already at the beginning of the twentieth century.

The architect came up with unusual facades in the form of a skeleton with skull balconies and a roof resembling the back of a dragon. The decoration combines bizarre forms of flora and fauna.

You will definitely love the unique interior design of the building. In addition to smooth lines and asymmetrical contours of window openings, people are attracted by forged decorative elements, stained glass windows, tiles, and original fireplace configurations.

Visiting the museum is allowed daily from 9-00 to 21-00. It is more convenient to get to the place by metro or bus. The ticket costs 20.35 euros. Children enter the building free of charge.

The building is not very popular with tourists, but it is recommended that you include it in your Barcelona itinerary. Vicens is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. It attracts with its original architectural design and design. The facades are covered with ceramic tiles, forming a pattern in the form of marigolds - the most popular flowers among the Catalans. This is Gaudi's first project, which reflected the extraordinary talent of the great master.

Vincennes is private property and is not open to the public. If you want to get acquainted with the interior decoration, plan a trip to Barcelona on May 22. On this day its doors are open to everyone.

You won't have to look for the building for long. It is located in the center of the Catalan capital. You can get to the place by metro.

Park Güell is another corner associated with the name of Antoni Gaudi, in which gardens and residential areas are organically intertwined. It was created more than 100 years ago. The park is located in the upper part of the city and is ideal for independent travel. A walk along its alleys will allow you to plunge into a real fairy-tale world.

An amazing world with fancy fences, funny lizards, mosaic houses beckons and delights. You will definitely see his image on most postcards with popular species. The main attraction of Guell is the house-museum of the architect himself.

The park is open to the public every day. In summer from 8-00 to 21-30, in winter - from 8-30 to 18-00. To get there on your own, you need to take the metro to Lesseps station. Then you can walk up the street or take the escalator.

The ticket costs 8 euros (if ordered on the website - 7). A visit to the museum will cost 5.50 euros.

Palace Güell is a residential building in the Art Nouveau style, which the great architect created for the industrialist, who became his patron and one of his main customers. This project still contains clear geometric lines, which distinguishes it from other creations of the master. Gives originality to the building

  • steel supporting structures designed by the master;
  • two arches with unique forged grilles;
  • coat of arms located between them;
  • unusual interior layout;
  • chimneys on the roof, the design of which makes the palace stand out from other buildings even at a distance.

The architectural masterpiece is located near the Ramblas, also popular with guests.

Manor Guell is the first masterpiece of Antoni Gaudi, created for his patron. Unfortunately, years and mediocre restorers have not been kind to the unique ensemble. Today you will be able to appreciate only the pavilions of the estate, decorated with broken ceramic tiles, and the original gate with a dragon, designed by the architect himself. The remaining buildings delight with their unusualness and beauty. They (like the park and Palace Güell) are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

To explore the pavilions on your own, you will need to take the metro or bus to Palau Reial station. A ticket costs 6 euros, which makes the architectural monument one of the most visited places.
