What is the best way to relax in Vietnam. Holidays in Vietnam: why, when and where is it better to go? Language and communication in Vietnam

Vietnam is stretched by a snake from north to south for 2500 km, so if you plan to relax in a particular place, and not travel around the country, it makes sense to look for flights to a specific city.

Comfortable (and not very comfortable) buses run between cities, there is a railway along the coast and budget airlines fly, which I will discuss below, but in order not to waste time, it is better to choose the right airport of arrival in advance.

The map shows the main airports and resorts that most people visit:

Hanoi is the capital of Vietnam. Located in the north of the country. This is the most picturesque and original region of Vietnam. The international airport is located 45 km from Hanoi. If you want to visit Sapu, Hue, bay halong and other attractions of the north, then buy air tickets to Hanoi.

Da Nang(Danang) - a city in the center of the country In the area of Danang and a neighboring city Hoi an the best beaches in Vietnam are located. They are not as popular as the beaches of Nha Trang or Mui Ne, because in Da Nang the sea warms up only in summer. In winter it is cool to swim in the sea big waves. There are no direct flights from Russia to Da Nang, but there are flights with transfers

Ho Chi Minh City(Saigon), Tan Son Nhat Airport (SGN) is the largest city, located in the south of the country. If you are planning a holiday in Mui Ne (Phan Thiet) or Vung Tau, take flights to Ho Chi Minh City

Nha Trang is a popular resort in central Vietnam. Most people choose to relax it is him. Nha Trang Cam Ranh International Airport is located 30 km south of Nha Trang. Charter flights from Russia, Vietnamese and Asian airlines, including low-cost airlines, fly there. Below I will tell you in detail how to get to Nha Trang, because there are direct flights from Russia only a few months a year

Phu Quoc- a paradise island in the south of Vietnam. Located in the Gulf of Thailand on the border with Cambodia. White sand, beaches without waves. Fukuoka has an airport. You can get from Russia with a transfer in Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi. There are no direct flights from Moscow to Phu Quoc now, I could not find charter flights either.

How do I find flights to Vietnam?

I do not like to scour the Internet and check a hundred services. When I need to buy the cheapest flights, I use the simplest and most efficient way:

2. Where to? I use a flexible search and choose not some city, but the whole country - Vietnam to see which city is cheaper to fly to.

For example, if you need to relax in, then it would be more logical to fly to Ho Chi Minh Airport. I look at tickets to all cities. Usually the lowest prices can be found just before Ho Chi Minh City.

But if suddenly on the right dates the flight to Ho Chi Minh City costs 100$ more expensive than to Hanoi (the capital), then I’d better buy a ticket to Hanoi, and then for 23$ I will book a flight Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City with Vietnamese low-cost airlines

2. Dates My departure date usually depends on the availability of cheap flights, so I use a flexible search. I choose the whole month or the cheapest month.

If you need to fly on a specific day, you can enter your dates

3. Direct flights If you need non-stop flights and two-way tickets, I put the appropriate checkboxes

4. Cost analysis. I use it precisely because it often finds the cheapest options, convenient connections and shows in the search results not only regular flights of major airlines, but also charter flights, as well as tickets from Asian low-cost airlines. If there are sales and specials on my dates. prices for some airlines, skyscanner will show them too

5. Where to buy air tickets? You can follow the links from Skyscanner to the websites of ticket agencies - this will most likely be cheaper. Just in case, I additionally check the airline's websites (Skyscanner search results show which airline operates the flight). If the airline's ticket price does not differ from the price in ticket agencies, I buy from the airline.

Tickets to Vietnam on Aviasales

To make sure that Skyscanner has found the best deals, I additionally check prices through the Aviasales search engine.

There is a less convenient search, because it does not allow you to search by month or by country (only by date and city), but the prices for air tickets to Vietnam are sometimes more favorable on these sites. You should always check several search engines and buy where the conditions are most favorable.

Find cheap tickets to Vietnam:

1. New Year . If you want to relax in Vietnam on holidays (New Year, May, March 8), then you need to buy tickets in advance. For a year or at least for a few months.

3. Weekday flights are often cheaper

4. The closer the New Year, the higher the prices, so buying tickets in December is a bad idea.

5. Since March flights are getting cheaper, and in the north of Vietnam it is getting much warmer. It is better to plan a vacation for March-April than for December-February, when the peak season

6. Find out the dates vietnamese new year and book your accommodation in advance. On New Year's dates, hotels, houses and apartments can cost twice as much as on ordinary days, so looking for accommodation on the spot or booking a couple of days before arrival is extremely unprofitable.

Vietnam ticket sales

Several times a year, airlines sell tickets for low prices. Companies have sales to Asia Etihad, Qatar, emirates, Aeroflot, Turkish Airlines, Air China

If you are looking for flights in search engines and there is a sale for your dates, then it will show

Glitches Etihad, Air China

Etihad and Air China glitches. Whether by accident or on purpose, Etihad and Air China have been selling tickets to Asia at crazy fares throughout the year. Tickets could be purchased for 250$ in two directions (usually the minimum price is $400-450). These glitches are related to the calculation of the amount of fuel surcharge.

When compiling a complex route, prices could be brought down by 50-150$ . Each time a different direction is added to the complex route. For example, last year I used a glitch to buy myself tickets to Goa for 10’000 rub round-trip, adding an additional segment "Australia" to the route. This year, during the sale of Air China, it was necessary to add Brazil or choose to return to Minsk.

The price of tickets can sometimes be reduced by several thousand if you choose the return point " Ekaterinburg»

2. In the column From where we indicate your city or the whole country "Russia"

3. Where - Vietnam

4. Choose the whole month or specific dates if you need to fly on a specific day

Step 1. Showing all prices for tickets to cities in Vietnam from Russia in March (BOTH ends)
Step 2. By clicking on the desired city (for example, Ho Chi Minh City), we see prices in Ho Chi Minh City from different cities of Russia for the whole of March

5. The cheapest tickets to Vietnam are usually sold from Vladivostok and Khabarovsk. You are looking at the price from your city. If she's only 50-100$ higher than the price of the same tickets from Moscow, then it is better to fly from the nearest airport

6. If the ticket is from Moscow much cheaper, then all on the same check how much a ticket costs from your city to Moscow

7. Now Pobeda Airlines often arranges sales of flights across Russia. For example, recently they had a special prices of 100 rubles for flights to 16 cities of Russia. Skyscanner shows Pobeda flights, so you can open the calendar and see which days are cheaper to fly. Don't forget to check the airline's website. Perhaps the prices on the Pobeda website will be even lower than on Skyscanner.

* Carefully read the baggage conditions and hand luggage if you plan to fly around Russia with Pobeda!

Flights to Nha Trang

Nha Trang has one airport, Nha Trang Cam Ranh International Airport, located 30 km south of the resort. If you are purposefully going on vacation in Nha Trang, look for flights to this airport.

On Vietnamese websites, Nha Trang is referred to as Nha Trang. If you look for tickets for domestic buses, trains, planes, then you will not find the word "Nha Trang" at the destinations.

Direct flight

There is a direct flight Moscow-Nha Trang only with October to March from Vietnam Airlines, and tickets for direct flights from Moscow to Nha Trang are sold for 50 000 rub- this is almost twice as expensive as for flights with transfers

VN-70 Moscow (DME) — Nha Trang

Flight VN-71 Nha-Trang — Moscow (DME)

This flight is not shown on the Vietnam Airlines website, so you need to search through search engines, Aviasales

In Nha Trang with a transfer

Flights to Nha Trang with transfers can be bought for 29000-32000 rub round trip

Charters in Nha Trang

You need to search for charters in Nha Trang on the Internet for specific dates and call travel agencies that sell tours to Nha Trang from your city. There is no unified database of charters today. Often slip cheap tickets or package tours to Nha Trang on

To Nha Trang from Ho Chi Minh City

Nha Trang is located 440 km from Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). If you arrive in Ho Chi Minh City, then you have several ways to get to Nha Trang:

  • To Nha Trang by train

vetau24h.com is the official website of the railway in Vietnamese (there is no English version)

You can view the bus schedule in English and buy tickets from thesinhtourist

Bus Saigon - Nha Trang leaves for 7.15 morning and at 20.00 , on my way 10-12 hours, a ticket costs about 200,000 VND (≈ 9$ )

Bus schedule from Ho Chi Minh City to other cities:

  • By plane

The list of low cost Asian airlines that fly to Nha Trang from Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and other cities is given at the end of this article.

To Vietnam via Southeast Asia

If you have not found cheap tickets to Vietnam, you can check the prices for flights to Thailand, Malaysia, China, Singapore. From all these countries, you can very cheaply get to the cities of Vietnam by local Asian airlines.

Low-cost carriers of Vietnam and Southeast Asian countries

– to Singapore from Da Nang, to the Philippines, to China, India, Australia from Hanoi, there are flights from Ho Chi Minh City

Flying in Vietnam

Most low-cost flights within Vietnam and Southeast Asian countries can be found on and on Aviasales

If you click “Buy” in the search engines, you get to the website of the low-cost airline. In Vietnamese dongs, the price is the same for search engines and airlines, so you can safely use search engines in Russian and with a flexible search for dates. The purchase will still be made on the website of Vietnamese low-cost airlines.

Tours to Vietnam

If there are two of you and you just want to relax in a Vietnamese resort for one or two weeks, then buying a tour to Vietnam will most likely cost less than a self-organized trip. The cost of the tour usually includes a charter flight, a hotel for two, transfer, insurance, and even meals (not always).

Cheap air tickets and sunny weather in Vietnam!

Your Mila Demenkova

There are 15 main resorts in Vietnam, where it is better to go on vacation with children, a loved one or friends. Top three: Nha Trang, Mui Ne, Phu Quoc. In this article you will find a brief description of the differences between resorts, prices for tours, hotels, flights, weather, when is the best time to go and what to do.

Where better to go on vacation in Vietnam - 15 resorts and cities

Mysterious Asia has always tormented my imagination with its mystery and unique atmosphere. Vietnam is one of the countries that attracts the attention of not only foreigners, but also Asians themselves.

Vietnam can be crossed from border to border, from north to south and everywhere will be incredibly beautiful. When people ask me where it is better to go in Vietnam, I ask a counter question: “What do you want to find in this country?”. Because Vietnam combines everything from shopping and beach holiday to historical sights and long trips on motorized tanks. Don't worry if you can't answer the question right away, this article will help you with the choice.

Some resorts need to be reached by bus, besides this is the cheapest way to move between cities. You can buy tickets online on the website or on the spot. I used the services of a Vietnamese shipping company Hanh Cafe, was satisfied. They are not available in all cities, but you will find offices in large southern resorts. Is there some more Sinh Tourist.

Which resort to choose based on the weather

Map of Vietnam with resorts in Russian

Geographically, Vietnam stretches along the coast from south to north, so you can come here all year round and find good weather every time. True, each time in a new place. Therefore, you need to decide when you are going to go on vacation to Vietnam. This is because the country has both a dry season and a rainy season, when rivers overflow their banks, and the country is literally immersed in water. It is not pleasant to stay in a cool city upon arrival, not daring to visit something because of washed-out roads, you must agree. Therefore, it is so important to understand what the weather is like in the resorts of Vietnam.

For convenience, let's divide Vietnam into 3 regions: northern, central and southern, so that you understand where and when to go on vacation. I marked the most successful and unsuccessful months for the trip. The rest are fine.

North (Hanoi, Sapa, Halong Bay)

People go to the north of Vietnam for trekking in the mountains. For these purposes here better to come at the end of the year- from October to December. It will be dry and warm. In summer it often rains and storms.

Center (Hoi An, Nha Trang, Mui Ne, Phan Thiet)

In the central part of Vietnam, where all the best resorts for a beach holiday, rainy season from september to january. This does not mean that it is endlessly pouring from the sky here, but you will have to get wet. Many people go to Nha Trang in November, this is not a very good choice. Yes, it’s cheap, but cloudy weather and a dirty sea, in which you can’t swim much. In November, it is better to choose Mui Ne.

Good months: from January to August.

South of Vietnam (Phu Quoc, Ho Chi Minh City)

South Vietnam is great for winter holidays. The most popular resort in the south is Phu Quoc Island. In Fukuoka, rains are relatively rare guests; you can come here almost all year round. Most bad months - august and september. But in November-January, when you most want sun and warmth, Fukuoka has wonderful weather.

Dry months: from November to May.

The best resorts and cities in Vietnam

For me, Vietnam is not quite a story about beaches and lazy resorts, one city is not enough for me, the country is so beautiful that I want to travel all over it. If you are of the same opinion, then you are in the article 7-day route in Vietnam and 14-day from north to south. Because for you the main question is not “where is it better to go on vacation to Vietnam”, but “how best to go around it all”.

If you want to rest in one place, then just read on. I'll start with the tourist cities of the north and further south so as not to break our weather logic. All beach resorts in Vietnam are located to the south.

Sapa

© 1271196 / pxhere.com / CC BY 2.0

Sapa is located in the very north of Vietnam. This is one of the most beautiful places in the country. All thanks to the multi-stage rice terraces in the mountains, often covered with layered creeping fog. The views are amazing. The city of Sapa is also popular for its market, where locals bring handmade products and clothes for sale. The Vietnamese from the northern villages are a different story. They live in large families in villages without the Internet, running water and other benefits of civilization. They walk in bright national costumes and, by their very appearance, they transfer time machines into the past better. You will practically not find Russians in Sapa, in the northern part of Vietnam, in the main, only Europeans and Americans have a rest, our compatriots choose resorts to the south. Therefore, there are no package tours to Sapa.

Weather: The best time to travel to Sapa is from November to January. At this time, there is dry sunny weather here, the temperature is +18 - 21 degrees. The warmest month is April. Rains are frequent in summer.

Things to do: people come to Sapa for trekking in the mountains. Another entertainment is motorbike tours through rice terraces, waterfalls and local villages with a colorful population.

How to get there: only from Hanoi - the capital of Vietnam.

Where to stay:

halong

Until recently, it was a province near Hanoi, but with an increase in the flow of tourists, Halong quickly became a popular resort in northern Vietnam with many hotels and developed infrastructure. The local beaches are artificial, however, to go here, in my opinion, is not for the sake of splashing in the sea, but because of the 2000 islands in the middle of the bay. Halong Bay is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is one of the most beautiful places on the planet. you can swim in the bay only by buying an excursion, you will not be allowed to go there on your own on a boat. To see everything, it is better to take 2 days. You can take a tour in Hanoi city, or come on your own and buy it on the spot.

In Halong, you can stay on Cat Ba Island. This is the largest island in the bay, it has its own resorts and hotels. It is all covered with greenery (absolutely all), but you will not find a beach holiday here - there are no beaches. The island has a beautiful national park and cruises around the bay also go from here.

You can stay in the city of Hafon, which is located next to the bay.

Weather: it is best to come in November, April and May, at this time you are more likely to catch sunny weather. The sea is warm and the air temperature steadily rises to +28 degrees.

Things to do: buy a tour of the bay and climb Mount Bai Tu, which offers stunning views of the entire city and the surrounding bay.

How to get there: from Hanoi by bus. If you take a tour in Hanoi, then you will be taken by transfer there and back.

Where to stay:

Hanoi

Hanoi is the capital of Vietnam. Despite the difficult military history, this is one of the most interesting and modern cities in Asia. It is very easy to get here - planes fly from everywhere. Independently from Russia they fly just either to Hanoi or to Ho Chi Minh City. Even though these are the 2 most major cities in Vietnam, the atmosphere is completely different. Hanoi is the cultural heart of Vietnam, while Hosh Minh is the economic heart. This is not a cold concrete metropolis - in the city center beautiful lake and many parks.

Weather: best months to come here - December, January and February. Despite the fact that it is relatively cool in Hanoi at this time, the average day is +22, but there is practically no rain. The summer months are hot and rainy.

Things to do: long walks along the narrow streets, go to museums, opera houses, markets, do exercises with the Vietnamese in the mornings on the lake, get acquainted with the nightlife. In general, everything that any capital is famous for.

How to get there: by plane from anywhere in the world.

hue

© yiannis_chatzi / flickr.com / CC BY 2.0

We got to the very center of Vietnam on the map. Hue is an interesting tourist, but not a resort city in Vietnam. People do not come here for a long time, usually for a couple of days to touch the history. Hue is another UNESCO heritage site in Vietnam. Once this city was the imperial capital when the Nguyen dynasty ruled the country. Traveling around Vietnam, you can find shops in every city named after the owners with the surname Nguyen. But Hue became famous for his participation in the Vietnam War. Until now, the walls of the city are decorated with traces of bullets.

Weather: The best time to travel is February, March and April. The rainiest is October. The degrees are warm, as in all of Vietnam, but it can be wet.

Things to do: visit the Forbidden City, the entrance to which was available only to emperors and their concubines, see how the Vietnamese emperors lived, count the traces of shells in the walls of the Citadel, look into the tombs of the emperors. The best way to explore the city is by bike.

How to get there: from Russia you can fly to Da Nang, there is an international airport, and from there by bus / train / plane to Hue. Cheaper by bus, of course.

Where to stay:

Danang

A fairly well-known resort located in the center of the country. It is best to come here from April to June - warm weather and waves. An ideal place for surfing and a relaxing holiday. Da Nang is the fifth largest in Vietnam and the first real seaside resort on our list. This is a big beautiful city. True, the tourist infrastructure is growing in Da Nang more slowly than the flow of tourists.

There are good beaches here - Bac My An and My Khe. Admission is free, but you have to pay for an umbrella and a sun lounger. The sand line is incredibly wide and long. In addition, close to the airport.

In my opinion, the only negative for recreation is the remoteness of the city center from the tourist area. On the coast, especially in the non-tourist season, there are few shops, and buses almost do not run. For some, the advantage is that Russian tourists rarely choose this particular resort, which means you can completely immerse yourself in the atmosphere of another country. On the beaches of Nha Trang, for example, the feeling that I was in Russia did not leave me, only around, in addition to Russians, for some reason there are a lot of Chinese.

Weather:+23 - 32 degrees depending on the month. Best in February - April. It's hottest in May. Rains are frequent in summer and autumn.

Things to do: relax on the beaches, walk around the city, shop, explore the nightlife, travel to neighboring Hue and Hoi An.

How to get there: can be directly from Russia by plane. There are package tours in Da Nang. If you are tired of Nha Trang, then this is a good alternative.

Hoi an

An ancient port city with unique ancient architecture that has fully preserved its features. Another heritage site and one of the most interesting cities in Vietnam. The only negative is that there is no sea, the “resort” itself stands on the river, several kilometers to the sea coast. However, you can stay near the beach, but tourists prefer the Old Town with its measured atmosphere - a quiet island in the middle of noisy Asia. In addition, it is the easiest way to get to the Marble Mountains from here.

Hoi An was once a French resort, here you will find traces of colonial architecture mixed with oriental flair.

The beach here is clean, called An Bang. The descent to the water is gentle, and the sand is very light. Sun loungers and umbrellas are provided by local restaurants. Hoi An is interesting if you have already been to Vietnam and do not know where else to go.

Weather: come better in winter or early spring, other times come hurricanes and, of course, traditional Vietnamese floods.

Things to do: walk around the entire old city, dine in a candlelit boat restaurant, go to the Marble Mountains, buy a sailor suit (they are sewn here), rent a moped and ride to the beach.

How to get there: The easiest way is by bus from Da Nang. Yes, even from Nha Trang, only 11 hours to go.

Where to stay:

Nha Trang

© Binh Huynh / flickr.com / CC BY 2.0

Cam Ranh

Cam Ranh is a Vietnamese seaside resort, which is literally 20 minutes from Nha Trang and very close to the airport. Here is a calmer measured life, better beaches, large hotels with a territory (you will hardly find such hotels in Nha Trang). Meals are usually All Inclusive, which is rare in Vietnam, usually only breakfast.

The most famous beach here is Bai Dai. It stretched for 15 km. There is very nice fine practical white sand. Tourists from Nha Trang often come to Bai Dai, tired of the dirty central beach with crowds of Russian and Chinese tourists. Minus one - stronger waves, it is difficult to swim normally, you just have to jump on the waves.

The city of Cam Ranh is worth a trip if you like beach holidays and good 5-star hotels. At the same time, just 20 minutes by taxi, bus or moped from you will be Nha Trang with shopping and nightclubs. Taxis in Vietnam are inexpensive.

Weather and flights - everything, as for Nha Trang. Planes to Nha Trang land at Cam Ranh Airport.

Dalat

© Jane Jean / flickr.com / CC BY 2.0

Dalat is a mountain resort in Vietnam, a former French colony. It was built by the French, who tried to escape from the tropical heat to the saving coolness of the mountains. Therefore, it is called the City of Eternal Spring. The French left beautiful houses in the colonial style, and the city itself in the mountains over time became overgrown with narrow Vietnamese houses.

Dalat is a small city, in its center there is a lake and a circular embankment. The streets are narrow. If the center is on a flat area, then the roads diverging away from the center lead up at different intricate angles.

The best way to spend time in Dalat is to rent a motorbike and ride around the local waterfalls. Due to the mountainous terrain, bikes are mostly rented with a manual transmission, which you can’t figure out with a swoop. So ask for automatic.

If you can take a bike in Nha Trang, on average, for 100 thousand dong per day (about 300 rubles), in Dalat for 200 thousand. Moreover, without a passport they will give only the oldest bike, I checked. Passports are picked up at the hotel. Therefore, approach the reception and ask the owners to help you with the rental. They delivered the bike to the guesthouse, and they picked it up there.

There are few Russian tourists, mostly they are brought on excursions from Nha Trang for 1-2 days, there are also few Chinese in the French city.

Holiday season: the driest months are winter, with frequent sudden rains in summer. The sunniest months are February and March. It's hotter in summer. In winter, the average temperature is 18-20 degrees, in summer it reaches 28-30. There is no tropical stuffiness.

Things to do: travel around numerous waterfalls and parks, see temples and pagodas, ride a cable car.

How to get there: Buses run from Nha Trang, Mui Ne, Ho Chi Minh City. There is an airport, you can fly by plane.

Where to stay:

Vung Tau

The city of Vung Tau was built in Vietnam in the 19th century by French colonists. They wanted to make a seaport-resort that was not inferior to Dalat. Over time, convenient roads from Saigon were built to the resort, since the distance is only 128 km, which served as an impetus for the active development of the resort. Now wealthy Saigon people love to relax in Vung Tau. Due to the abundance of Vietnamese tourists, the beaches are dirty, and foreigners are looked at with joyful surprise. Yes, and from the Mekong causes dirt.

It is good to visit this city in winter, because there is a Russian quarter and, accordingly, work for Russian speakers. A place where you should fly not for recreation, but for a temporary change of residence - each of us sometimes wants to unwind and change the situation. Suddenly decide? Although, I would choose the whole of Nha Trang or Da Nang for the winter.

Weather: It is better to come from November to April - this is a dry season, from May to October it rains. The warmest month is April. The temperature rarely drops below 30 degrees.

Things to do: see pagodas and historic districts, move to live during the winter months. Although, in my opinion, Nha Trang is better for life. The only plus of Vung Tau is that there are fewer tourists, but if you rent housing not in the tourist area of Nha Trang, then it is compensated.

How to get there: from Nha Trang, Mui Ne, Saigon, all the same buses and planes.

Con Dao Islands

This review of resorts would be incomplete without Con Dao. Con Dao is not just one island, it is an archipelago of 16. A very secluded place for fans of diving and eco-tourism. Mass tourism will only destroy the charm of this place, where you can find many exotic plants and animals. It is quiet here, few tourists, no public transport. In addition, almost all the coasts are steep, which makes it difficult for a beach holiday - only in the east of the island there are secluded sandy areas.

Weather: diving here is worth coming from February to July - the water is clean.

Things to do: diving in the clear sea, a relaxing holiday, excursions to local prisons, which were famous for their brutal regime against prisoners.

How to get there: by plane or by ferry from Ho Chi Minh City.

Mui Ne and Phan Thiet

Mui Ne and Phan Thiet are neighboring resort cities in Vietnam, they are often combined into one area, because they are very close and have common sights. Phan Thiet is more of a city, while Mui Ne is a fishing village. There is only one street and a bypass highway. There are many good large hotels along the coastline with private beaches. This is more of a youth resort.

Mui Ne is worth a trip if you want a lot of sea, sun and sand. Lots of sand. Ham Tien beach is always busy, while Puhai and Suoi Nuoc are uncrowded and clean. In summer, you can admire surfers conquering the waves on the beaches. They come from all over the world. Mui Ne has a lot of European tourists. But for a beach holiday, especially with children, it is better to come in late autumn to catch a calm sea. This is if you give a brief description of the resort. It has its own natural attractions and carry excursions. I really enjoyed Ta Ku Mountain and you will find insanely beautiful scenery at Ke Ga Lighthouse.

Ho Chi Minh City

© Nguyendangduy / pixabay.com / CC BY 2.0

Ho Chi Minh is also known as Saigon. The main military operations in the war with the Americans took place here, the local radio constantly broadcast news from Saigon, often disappointing, therefore, in order not to once again cause local residents heavy memories, the city was renamed.

Ho Chi Minh City - perfect for all lovers of big cities. A huge buzzing hive - the main economic city of the country. The streets are full of cars and motorbikes (almost 8 million registered motorbikes, just a minute!), an insane number of restaurants and cafes, the best shopping in the country, luxurious nightclubs. The main sights of the city are collected in the small central area of Dong Hoi, here are the Ho Chi Minh Museum, and the local Notre Dame Cathedral, in the old Da Kao area you will find French colonial architecture of the 19th century. Quite poisonous are the famous Cu Chi tunnels, if you are interested in the history of the Vietnamese war, be sure to visit them.

Phu Quoc

You will find Phu Quoc at the very bottom of the resort map - this is the southernmost and one of the best resorts in Vietnam. Phu Quoc is becoming an increasingly popular resort among Russians every year. quiet island with a calm measured life. Wonderful place for snorkeling. Here are the cleanest and most beautiful beaches in Vietnam, and clear water allows you to fully appreciate the underwater views. The infrastructure is still developing, so the nightlife is still in its infancy.

Fukuoka has its own Winperl, it is best suited for families with children.

Weather:

  • from November to March - the most comfortable weather conditions;
  • from April to June - heat, short-term heavy showers are possible;
  • July to October is the rainy season.

Things to do: eat fruits, sunbathe on white-sand beaches, swim in clear waters.

How to get there: if on your own, then from Ho Chi Minh City, charters fly on tours.

This concludes the protracted description of the resorts. I hope my article will help you with choosing a place to stay in Vietnam. If you are going to Vietnam for the first time, then choose Nha Trang, Mui Ne or Phu Quoc. These are the most popular resorts in the south of Vietnam, vouchers are the cheapest here, and the tourist infrastructure is more developed. From the point of view of an ordinary tourist, we can say that these are the best resorts in Vietnam. The central part of Vietnam is more suitable for independent recreation; the most experienced travelers usually bring it to the northern part of the country.

Vietnam is one of the "rice civilizations" with ancient Buddhist temples lost in the jungle, underground guerrilla tunnels and the richest colonial heritage, perfectly preserved from French times. Vietnam is Thailand 20 years ago, not yet trampled by millions of tourists. “Fun, bright, inexpensive” – this is how the local resort life can be described in three words. Incendiary discos until the morning, forbidden pleasures, great shopping, incredible exotic dishes ... Or a relaxing holiday with children, romantic sunsets, mountain hikes and best photos for memory. You choose what you like.

How to get there?

It takes about 9 hours to fly from Moscow to Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City by regular flights of Aeroflot or Vietnam Airlines. And this is the only moment that can confuse beach lovers in winter. Our fellow citizens do not need a visa to Vietnam. And if you want to see more in one trip, it is logical to combine a holiday in Vietnam with a visit to neighboring countries - China, Laos, Cambodia, Burma or Thailand. Where is the best place to relax - more on that later.

Which resort to choose?

If you fly now or in the coming months, then a vacation without rain is most likely in the south and in the center of the country. These are popular resorts: Phu Quoc Island, Vung Tau, Mui Ne, Phan Thiet, Nha Trang, Danang. Focus on a flight to Ho Chi Minh City or Nha Trang, depending on the selected resort. January and February are “velvet” months, it is comfortable to rest, air and water are +25…+28 °С. In March and April it is hot and dry, the temperature is +30…+35 °С. In the summer months, it is better to choose the resorts of North Vietnam with a flight to Hanoi. And now we will briefly describe the most popular and rated resorts in the country, where you should go first.

Nha Trang

Nha Trang and its antipode Phan Thiet top the rating of preferences of Russian tourists. Nha Trang Bay takes an honorable 29th place in the world ranking of the most beautiful resort bays. Nha Trang (Russians from the Far East say "nishtyang") is growing and developing rapidly, new hotels of international hotel chains appear every year. Many restaurants, shops, colorful markets, a beautiful resort promenade. You won't be bored. After or instead of the beach, you can take a boat ride to the neighboring islands - look at the monkeys or hang out for the whole day in an amusement park. Temple complexes, Buddha statues, pagodas are the cultural component of the resort. And you can improve your health in local mud baths and thermal baths. There are a lot of European youth in Nha Trang, decent clubs with trendy DJs, a good selection of inexpensive alcohol. A few minuses: most of the hotels on the second line; locals come to the city beach, which is used by most tourists, in the late afternoon; after work, they like to relax here with their children. And in the summer months there are a lot of jellyfish near the shore.

Phan Thiet

The complete opposite of Nha Trang. Relaxed, democratic, inexpensive. Most of the hotels are two- or three-story cottages on the shore, comfortably hidden in palm groves. Here everyone smiles at each other, there is no crowd on the beaches, only the sea, the sun and a light fresh breeze. If flip-flops (they are also “flip flops”), shorts and a white panama are your style of relaxation, and you want to forget about the dress code at least for a while, then you are definitely here. Tourists come with children because it is inexpensive, sandy beaches and the entrance to the water is gentle. Couples find romantic sunsets and time to be together in Phan Thiet. Here, lovers of large portions of seafood with ice-cold beer are expanse, and local masseuses will make you see the "sky in diamonds" with their little hands. There are no particularly interesting sights in Phan Thiet and its environs. Tourists tired of the sun prefer to dilute their idle lying on the sand with water sports. A minus, perhaps, the only one. From the nearest airport in Ho Chi Minh City, it takes 5-6 hours to get to the resort by bus or taxi.

Mui Ne

Neighbor of Phan Thiet, this resort is loved by outdoor enthusiasts. Thanks to the constant wind, there is an ideal wave for surfers and kiters and several dozens of specialized schools with professional instructors. Prices are reasonable: an hour of windsurfing costs about $50, kitesurfing - $70. Many people speak Russian, there are several establishments where you will be treated to borscht and dumplings. True, the prices in the resort are higher than in Phan Thiet, again thanks to the large number of our tourists. On the main street of Mui Ne, spa and massage parlors, cafes and souvenir shops are at your service.

Phu Quoc

A resort island in the very south of the country, in the Gulf of Thailand, just 15 km from the coast of Cambodia. Given the size of the island (the largest island in Vietnam the size of Singapore), there is where to turn around. Active tourists choose jungle trekking, kayaking and canoeing, walking through numerous gardens and parks, and excursions to pearl factories. And diving in coastal waters is considered the most interesting and inexpensive in the country. But the main natural wealth of the island is luxurious sandy beaches stretching for many kilometers. There are still very few tourists on the island, although the infrastructure is rapidly developing. Hotels, casinos, golf courses, shopping and entertainment complexes are being built, a new airport has appeared. But today it is still a calm, clean and yet inexpensive resort. There is no better place for a quiet family or romantic vacation in Vietnam.

Vung Tau

A popular family resort 130 km from Ho Chi Minh City. It is almost as large and famous as Nha Trang, but the vibrant nightlife is missing here. But in the evening you can pass the time in bars with live music, which is a rarity for Vietnam. The beaches are wide sandy, restaurants and guest houses are now open in the former villas of the French aristocracy. The choice of hotels is also decent, for every taste and budget. Buddhist temples, pagodas, parks, the former royal residence, caves and underground tunnels - there is where to walk and what to see. There are two drawbacks: petty theft on the beaches and the presence of oil drilling platforms in the water area.

Condao

“Let's catch up and overtake Thai Phuket!” - something like this you can voice the ambitions of the Vietnamese tourism authorities on the islands of this archipelago in the South China Sea. The first description of the islands belongs to Marco Polo, and Con Son (the old name of Con Dao) got its notoriety thanks to the most terrible prison for political prisoners in Vietnam. Today it is a young resort with beautiful beaches and the best Six Senses hotel complex. Most of the island is occupied by the National Park, there are many interesting dive sites and places for fishing.

Dalat

A popular international mountain resort in the south of the country, 300 km from Ho Chi Minh City. These places are reminiscent of the French Alps with their mild climate and natural beauty. And it was built during the French colonization of Indochina as a mountain refuge from the sweltering heat. It is cooler here than on the coast, and the daytime temperature, even in the hottest summer months, does not exceed 25 ° C, and at night it drops to a comfortable 15 ° C. From November to April is the dry season, it is better to come at this time. Dalat can be compared to Bali's Ubud. Here are the best spas and massage parlors in the country, as well as several options for treatment and recovery using traditional oriental methods. These are acupuncture, Vietnamese herbal massage, Indian massage, Tibetan practices of face and body massage with warm basalt stones. And in Dalat, the best themed restaurants of Vietnamese and French cuisine. As souvenirs, tourists buy the famous luwak coffee (the palm marten has already enjoyed its grains once), artichoke tea, ceramic dishes inlaid with mother of pearl, and premium quality silk products. It is logical to combine Dalat with a holiday on the beaches of Nha Trang and a few nights in Ho Chi Minh City.

Da Nang and Hoi An

Most Popular seaside resorts Central Vietnam. The best season for a beach holiday is March and April. Da Nang has a modern international airport, the city is the fourth largest and industrial center of Vietnam. Nevertheless, it is very picturesque, there are several good beaches nearby, including the famous China Beach - a place of youth parties and surf stations. And 40 km away is the cozy town of Hoi An with a huge number of temples, pagodas, art salons, silk and souvenir shops. This is a city-museum, in it only 844 historical monuments are officially registered. Here you should try authentic Vietnamese cuisine and inexpensively replenish your summer wardrobe with handmade silk items sewn literally in front of you. The ancient imperial capital of the country - the city of Hue - a place of pilgrimage for tourists, lovers of history and adventure a la Indiana Jones, is located a few hours away by car from Da Nang.

halong and haiphong

Halong Bay is a very beautiful and unusual place in northern Vietnam. From Hanoi can be reached by bus or taxi in 3-4 hours (150 km). If you've watched James Cameron's movie Avatar, then the Halong rocks will remind you of the hovering blocks of the planet Pandora. Only in Halong do they bizarrely stick out of the turquoise waters of the bay. The best way to spend a few days in Ha Long is on board a wooden cruise ship. So you can swim to your heart's content in warm and clear water, visit the most beautiful and interesting places, buy authentic souvenirs in the floating village, go down to the mysterious caves on the shore and take the best selfies of your life. And don't forget to try the local delicacy - sweet and sour fish baked in sugar. Halong is also famous as a filming location for the films Indochina with Catherine Deneuve in the title role and Tomorrow Never Dies with Pierce Brosnan as James Bond. Haiphong is a cozy resort town not far from Halong. It reminds of Hanoi twenty years ago with its clean flowering boulevards, colonial houses and unhurried pace of life. In addition to good shopping, the city has many temples, inexpensive restaurants, and a decent zoo. Due to the proximity to Hanoi, Halong and Hai Phong are convenient to visit in one trip, along with a few days stop in the capital.

Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh

The description of the resorts will be incomplete without mentioning the main metropolitan areas of Vietnam, which are usually visited by almost all tourists, because they are also the air gates of the country. These cities are definitely worth attention and at least a brief study visit.

Hanoi is the capital of the country. This city will not leave anyone indifferent: old French houses are buried in greenery, and ancient temples stand just around the corner. Stop the cycle rickshaw and ride along the city boulevards, and in the evening go to the performance of the Theater on the Water. Have dinner at a national restaurant, and in the morning go to take a photo at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, look into the Temple of Literature and marvel at the elegance of the One-Pillar Pagoda and throw a coin into the Lake of the Returned Sword. And if you have time and energy left, go for a short trip to the mountains to the former French resort of Sapa. In one day in Sapa you can feel all four seasons, enjoy the natural beauties, see the unique Tafin Underwater Palace and the Thac Bak Silver Waterfall. And the most daring and hardy will be able to climb the highest peak of Indochina, Mount Fansipan (3,143 m).

Ho Chi Minh City, or Saigon, as it is habitually called by locals and American tourists, is the main city of South Vietnam. Saigon is interesting during the day and does not sleep at night. Colonial buildings of the last century peacefully coexist with skyscrapers, shopping malls and office buildings. You will be impressed by the former Presidential Palace, and interesting finds of local designers can be bought on Dong Hoi Boutique Street. Military history buffs will be interested in going down into the guerilla tunnels of Cu Chi, and families with children will appreciate the Mekong river trip with lunch and a visit to the snake nursery. And in the evening, it's so good to admire the bright lights and the life below, sipping a cocktail or a cool beer in the hotel's rooftop bar. And with renewed vigor go in search of "adult" night adventures after an invigorating foot massage. In terms of the number and density of bars, discos, entertainment "on the verge" Saigon is not inferior to Bangkok.

May holidays experience

In this part of Vietnam, the spring months are beautiful. There is no suffocating and humid heat yet, and rains are rare. Therefore, having visited Hoi An in April and stayed here for only one day, we decided to return here for a good rest in May.

Rest alone

There is never a dull moment in Hoi An: after all, a new discovery will be waiting for you around the corner of literally every house.

Where is the best place to stay?

When choosing where to stay, we studied almost the entire city on the map and reviews, looked at photos and read reports. Having decided on priorities, we decided to choose a hotel not on the seashore (because it was important for us to explore the city) and not in the oldest city. There is a small area in Hoi An, which is separated from the old city by bridges. It is an island surrounded by a river. In the evenings, a market opens here. We chose this place because, despite the proximity of the main attractions, it is quite quiet here. And for Hoi An with its crowds of tourists, this is a definite plus. At sea we were going to ride bicycles. And, frankly, this is also a kind of tourist attraction.

What to do at the resort?

Hoi An is an open-air museum. All day long you can wander through the labyrinths of streets. You can go on an excursion to the ruins of Michon or the marble mountains. Or you can take a bus to Da Nang and visit the famous Golden Bridge.

Of course, a memorable trip will be an excursion to the ruins of the Michon temple complex. This is an opportunity to travel back in time. After all, this complex was built and used from the 4th to the 13th centuries. Here you feel like a real explorer, although the complex is not very well preserved, and some buildings can only be guessed among the stones and earth. There is no shade on the ruins, it is very hot, so you should take care of water, sunscreen and a hat.

And of course it would be a crime not to visit the old town of Hoi An. Entrance is free, but to visit the sights, you will need to buy an entrance ticket. Its price includes the opportunity to see 5 sights: you will have to choose among the variety of museums, temples, residential buildings, community buildings, and of course, do not miss the famous covered bridge with a pagoda. But even when all the tickets are spent, you can go to galleries, cafes, workshops - most of them are located in old buildings, and local residents are happy to show tourists the houses of their ancestors.

Four as an assessment only for the fact that you still have to drive to the beaches from the city center. But the beaches themselves are clean, in some places palm trees descend to the very water. However, when you get to the beach, don't stop right away. There are always a lot of Vietnamese in this place and as such there is no beach infrastructure. Worth going to the left. At first, the beach will not be very beautiful, due to the sandbags reinforced with sandbags. However, cafes start further, where you can leave your vehicle. It's already better here, and there are not a lot of people.

Where can you eat?

Food is everywhere here: from carts where you can buy pancakes, to solid cafes. Coffee houses in ancient buildings and courtyards are especially beautiful.

About the quality of food and service

In Hoi An, you can try several dishes that are the symbol of this place: noodles with Khao Lau meat, crispy shrimp pancakes and dumplings with White Rose rice flour dough (we liked them the most).

How much does it cost to eat? About food prices.

Prices, it seemed to us, are somewhat higher than in Nha Trang. For example, a bottle of beer in a restaurant will cost about 20,000 VND, White Rose (depending on the location) from 80,000 to 120,000 VND. For two, we spent about 300,000 dong for dinner.

Pros of living in Hoi An

Romance... In my opinion, Hoi An is the most romantic town in Vietnam. Here you can fully immerse yourself in the history and culture of this region. It seems like you are at home. Hoi An is the only resort, leaving which, I could hardly hold back tears.

Cons of staying in Hoi An

A large number of people. But for some reason it didn't bother me at all.

Should you visit Hoi An?

Definitely worth it, at least once, at least passing by, it is worth looking into Hoi An. And if you are relaxing in Nha Trang, take a chance and go by bus to Hoi An for at least a couple of days. It's worth it.

Next we visit the Clay Sculpture Park. A very interesting and colorful place where, among other things, you can change into a national Vietnamese (Chinese, Japanese) outfit for ridiculous money (2 dollars) and take wonderful photos.

Feel the difference!

This is not just a sightseeing tour of the city, which tour operators and street travel agencies do. If you were told that your tour already includes a “free” or “gift” tour of Nha Trang, you should know that this is not really a tour, but a drive through factories and shops disguised as a “tour”. Therefore, it is free. Only people who are not accustomed to finding out information in advance go to it. You are no longer one of them

The tour "Real Nha Trang" is completely different both in approach and in content.

It takes place both individually (couple or family, price on request), and in a group.

In addition to well-known places, we strive to show the real, non-tourist Nha Trang, and Vietnam in general. The highlight of the trip is the country pagoda, which few people know about. There are almost no tourists there. On the way to...

Imagine a luxurious quiet beach where only our small group relaxes (often this is the case).

It is very beautiful there, there are no waves, no city fuss, the landscape is decorated with picturesque rocks - an ideal place for relaxation and photo shoots. We are on the beach from 8:30 to 15:00.

And on the way back to Nha Trang, we stop at a unique shell temple and the Dragon's labyrinth, after passing which, according to legend, you can cleanse yourself of past sins.

The price includes transport, entrance fees and mushroom beds, as well as wine, rum, a lot of fruit and a very tasty dish of Vietnamese cuisine (everyone eats, there is no extreme, no one ever remains hungry).

The duration of the tour is from 7 am to 5 pm.

Group up to 14 people, comfortable air-conditioned minibus.

Vietnam is a country in Southeast Asia, located on the Indochina Peninsula and washed from the east and south by the South China Sea. The official name of the country is the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Vietnam's neighboring states are Laos and Cambodia, with which Vietnam borders in the west, as well as China, with which the border lies in the north. The total area of the country is 331,212 square kilometers, which is only 65th in the world. B O Most of Vietnam is occupied by low or medium height mountains and plateaus. The highest point in the country is Mount Fansipan (3143 meters) of the Hoanglyenshon mountain range. In addition, the largest Indochinese rivers Mekong and Hongha flow through Vietnam, which flow into the South China Sea.

For a long time, Vietnam was an Indochinese colony of France and achieved independence only in the middle of the 20th century - this happened in 1945, although armed clashes continued in the country for several more years. Vietnam is also the scene of a 1965-1973 war with the United States that cost many lives on both sides.

Modern Vietnam is a socialist state that has chosen the Chinese version of development - the modernization and liberalization of the economy. As of 2016, the population of Vietnam is 94,569,072 people.

Visa

To enter Vietnam for a period of more than 15 days, citizens of the Russian Federation must have a visa obtained from the consulate of Vietnam, and you can also apply for a visa directly upon arrival.

In order to obtain a visa at the consulate, you need to provide the following documents: a foreign passport (minimum validity - 6 months from the end of the trip); 2 photographs 4×6 cm; 2 questionnaires completed in Russian, English or French; invitation, travel voucher or booking. The visa is issued within 5 working days, and its validity period is 30 days. In addition, a US$25 consular fee is charged.

When obtaining a visa directly at the border, at the Vietnamese airport, you need to provide 2 photos 3 × 4 in size, one completed application form, as well as a visa permit from the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam, which is issued within 5-7 working days. Upon arrival, citizens must go to the "Visa on arrival" window, and from that moment the vacation in Vietnam begins.

Among other things, the visa indicates the points of entry and exit through which the guest of the country can cross the border. To change the specified location, you must contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City. This service is paid.

If the period of stay in Vietnam does not exceed 15 days, then Russian citizens do not need to apply for a visa. In addition, neighboring Laos and Cambodia have similar rules (in Cambodia you can easily get a visa at the border), so after a 15-day stay in Vietnam, you can leave for one of the neighboring countries and then return again for 15 days. Often, when entering Vietnam for a period of less than 15 days, border guards may require you to present a ticket to leave the country - this is prescribed by the rules, but not always enforced.

Customs regulations

When entering Vietnam, there are certain customs regulations. So, an unlimited amount of foreign convertible currency can be imported into the country, however, if the amount exceeds 3,000 US dollars, then the currency must be declared, since no more than the declared amount can be exported from the country.

You can also carry, without paying a duty, the following goods: a maximum of 1.5 liters of strong alcohol or 2 liters of drinks with an alcohol content of maximum 22 degrees; either 400 cigarettes, or 100 cigars, or 500 grams of tobacco; 5 kilograms of tea; maximum 3 kilograms of coffee, as well as two cans of black or red caviar weighing no more than 100 grams. In addition, other goods are also transported, the total value of which does not exceed 5 million VND (Vietnamese dong).

As in other countries of Southeast Asia, the penalties for trying to smuggle drugs are the most severe, up to and including the death penalty. In addition, it is strictly forbidden to transport medicines containing narcotic substances without having the permission of doctors to use them, as well as explosives, firearms, pornographic products or insulting local culture.

Current time in Hanoi:
(UTC+7)

Upon arrival, all tourists undergo sanitary and epidemiological control, and on board the aircraft they fill out a Declaration of Health. If during the control the visitor does not show any symptoms of diseases such as AIDS, plague, tuberculosis, cholera, yellow fever and others, then no problems will arise. Otherwise, the tourist is waiting for treatment in one of the local hospitals, and not a good rest in Vietnam.

How to get there

It is relatively easy to get to Vietnam from Russia - several airlines operate regular flights at once, but the list of Russian cities from where you can fly directly to Vietnam is small - these are Moscow, Novosibirsk and Vladivostok. However, during the tourist season (during the winter months), charter flights are also carried out from other cities, for example, from Yekaterinburg (sometimes), St. Petersburg, Krasnoyarsk.

You can fly directly from Moscow to the largest Vietnamese cities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City by flights of Aeroflot and Vietnam Airlines.

Aeroflot operates direct flights from Sheremetyevo Airport to Hanoi, Noi Bai Airport. The flight is very long, so passengers are provided with meals twice. On the way, the airplane overcomes almost the entire Asian continent - Central Asia, India, etc. The time in the air is 9 and a half hours.

From Domodedovo Airport, regular flights to both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are operated by Vietnam Airlines, the country's main air carrier. Planes land at Tan Son Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh City. Boeings of Vietnam Airlines have all the conditions for a long comfortable flight, including many technical devices such as screens built into the backs of seats, etc. During the flight, all passengers are offered hot meals twice, as well as a certain amount of alcohol. It is also worth noting that Vietnam Airlines has special rates for residents of other Russian cities, which can make it much easier to get to Vietnam with a connection at Moscow Domodedovo Airport (if you fly from Vladivostok, you have a connection in Seoul).

Representation in Moscow: Moscow, Frunzenskaya 3rd st., 1, building 1, tel. 5892450, fax 5892552. Office at Domodedovo airport: room. 512, 5th floor, opening hours 14.00-20.00, tel. 9268661, fax 9268661, E-mail: [email protected].

The airline "S7" ("Siberia") also has regular flights to Vietnam, the city of Ho Chi Minh City, but not from Moscow, but from Novosibirsk. Planes fly once every two weeks.

From Vladivostok to the capital of Vietnam, the city of Hanoi, you can fly by planes of Vladivostok-Avia. The frequency of flights is once a week, and the flight itself lasts a little over 5 hours.

Climate and weather in Vietnam

So that your holiday in Vietnam is not spoiled by weather conditions, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the climate data for the country. The climate in Vietnam is tropical monsoon, so the humidity is quite high, averaging 84% throughout the year. However, the climate often differs markedly from region to region. This happens because of the difference in latitudes and in the features of the relief of a particular area. The winter dry season, which lasts from November to April, is dry only in comparison to the rainy season, as there is enough rainfall during these months, thanks to the monsoon winds blowing from the northeast coast of China. In the southern regions of the country, it is quite hot in winter - about 25 degrees, while in the north it is on average 10 degrees colder. The lowest temperatures are in December and January, sometimes reaching only 1 degree above zero. In any case, it is most comfortable in the south of the country, where in any season the temperature rarely drops below 20 degrees, and in April - the hottest month - sometimes even reaches 37 degrees.

The average annual rainfall ranges from 1200-3000 millimeters per year, with 90% of all rainfall occurring between May and October. At this time, each region of the country receives its portion of precipitation, but in the winter months in the south of Vietnam, the probability of rain is much less than in the north. It is also worth knowing that in late summer and early autumn, the time comes for typhoons, often with truly destructive power.

Cities and regions

Vietnam consists of 59 rather small provinces, plus there are 4 cities of central subordination - these are the cities of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Haiphong and Da Nang. The most developed provinces from an economic point of view are located in the northeast of the country, which is not so popular among tourists, as well as in the south of the country near the city of Ho Chi Minh City.

Major cities and islands of Vietnam

Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam's largest city and economic capital of the country. A lot of industries are developed here; it is estimated that 40% of Vietnamese exports come from Ho Chi Minh City. The city was founded by the French colonizers in 1874 (the official date of foundation is March 15, 1874). Until 1975, the city was called Saigon.

Nha Trang

The city of Nha Trang is the capital of Khanh Hoa province and at the same time the capital of a beach holiday in Vietnam. Simply put, it is the most popular resort in the country. About 200,000 people live in Nha Trang, and almost the entire life of local residents is connected with the tourism industry.

halong

Halong is both a city and a bay. The city itself is nothing special, and the real pearl of this area and the whole of Vietnam is Halong Bay. This bay is on the list world heritage UNESCO. Surprisingly, more than 1,600 islets and rocks of various shapes, sometimes very bizarre, are scattered over an area of 1,500 square kilometers, which makes the bay more like a fairy-tale than a real place. No wonder Halong Bay is one of the most visited places in Vietnam.

Phu Quoc

The Vietnamese island of Phu Quoc is located in the Gulf of Thailand, just 15 kilometers from the coast of neighboring Cambodia. The island, whose area reaches 567 square kilometers, is also called the "island of 99 mountains." Phu Quoc is home to 85,000 people, mostly employed in tourism or agriculture.

What to see

By clicking on the links in the text, you can get more detailed information about a particular object (description, location on the map, entrance fees, opening hours, ways to get there, photos, tourist reviews, etc.). If you are interested in the sights of Vietnam as a whole, without division into cities, there is a special section for this.

Hanoi

Ho Chi Minh City

In Ho Chi Minh City, you can see many interesting buildings - colonial buildings, the Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral, Buddhist temples and pagodas, the Presidential Palace, mosques and much more.

In addition, from Ho Chi Minh itself you can easily get to neighboring province Tai Ninh, where there are many beautiful Cao Dai temples, as well as the Mekong Delta region.

As for sights, in the central part of the city there are several very interesting places for tourists. And if you come to Ho Chi Minh in the summer, from mid-May to the end of August, you can find "Southern Fruit Festival" held here every year.

Nha Trang

Among the attractions of Nha Trang, it is necessary to highlight the Long Son Pagoda, behind which, on the top of the hill, there is a large stone statue of Buddha sitting on a lotus flower. You can also look at the Cham towers of the 13th century, which were built in the era of the Champa state. It is also possible to swim with an excursion to Monkey Island, located 12 kilometers north of Hon Che Island. The tour includes a cruise around the islands, fishing, visiting the Bajo waterfall, mud and mineral springs, local craft villages. If you wish, you can visit the Circus of Dogs and Monkeys, the Circus of Elephants and Bears and much more on the island.

halong

A mandatory item of the program is a trip on a boat or some other vessel around the islands. At the pier in the city, you can find out in detail about all the possible routes, which can be both short and long, and even include an overnight stay on the ship. The usual excursion includes a visit to a fishing village on one of the islands, a cave, as well as an island named after German Titov, the famous Soviet cosmonaut who vacationed here in the 70s. You can also do night fishing directly from the boat, which, however, must be ordered in advance. But then you can enjoy the taste of your own catch! Popular islands in Halong Bay are Tuan Chau and Cat Ba Islands.

Phu Quoc

Phu Quoc has a large number of beautiful beaches stretching from the town of Duong Dong to the town of An Thoi. The island has many beautiful hills and mountains covered with tropical forest. In addition, in Phu Quoc you can watch the sunset on the sea, which is not done in other resorts in Vietnam that face the east.

Resorts of Vietnam

Tourists in Vietnam, first of all, will be interested in its numerous beaches and warm sea, and only then the Ho Chi Minh mausoleum and everything else. resort towns plenty in the country. Of course, not all of them correspond to the European level of quality, equipment and infrastructure. It is noteworthy that the resorts stretch along the entire coast of Vietnam - from south island Phu Quoc to the Mongkai resort in the north of the country.

The waters of the South China Sea are quite salty - saltier than in the neighboring Gulf of Thailand, but at the same time more beneficial to health. At the confluence of the rivers (especially the Mekong and the Red), the water is fresher.

Movement around the country

In Vietnam, in one quantity or another, you can meet and use all modern modes of transport - from domestic aircraft to intercity buses and taxis. Some of them are very well developed, some are not enough, but in some cases they can be irreplaceable. In any case, there is an opportunity to get even to remote places in Vietnam, even if you have to make several transfers from one mode of transport to another or, say, from one bus route to another.

The following types of transport are developed in the country: air transport, rail transport, buses, water passenger transport and various types of taxis. You can find recommendations on moving around the country and get to know each type of Vietnamese transport in more detail in our special material “Transport in Vietnam: from a scooter to an airplane”.

Communication

Vietnamese is a member of the Viet Muong group of the Australo-Asiatic language family and is the native language of the Viet and the Kinh people. Neighboring China has had a great influence on the Vietnamese language and culture: two-thirds of the words in the Vietnamese language are of Chinese origin.

For tourists, it is very convenient that instead of hieroglyphs in the Vietnamese language, the Latin alphabet is used, although with the addition of diacritics under or above the letter, which indicate a particular tone, in vowels. Due to the fact that there are a huge number of tones and semitones in Vietnamese speech, it is very difficult to perceive it by ear. At the same time, the Vietnamese themselves have problems with the correct pronunciation of European words. It is often very difficult to make out what a Vietnamese person is saying in English.

English is the most common foreign language among the locals, which, however, is not surprising. It is studied at school, at universities, in courses, etc. Also, Chinese is taught in educational institutions in Vietnam - the second most popular foreign language after English. English and Chinese are followed by French, Russian and German, but they are much less common. So, Russian is most often known by adults who studied at the universities of the USSR, as well as Vietnamese merchants who returned from Russia, but their level of language proficiency is very low. Recently, due to an increase in the number of tourists from Russia in the resort areas, local residents are slowly beginning to master the Russian language.

culture

Vietnamese culture throughout its centuries-old history has been subjected to numerous influences of its powerful neighbors or the mother country, but each time it melts them into something original and unique in its own way. India and China play a special role in the development of Vietnamese culture. China introduced more than half of the words and hieroglyphic writing into the Vietnamese language (in the 20th century it was replaced by the Latin alphabet), and into culture - Confucianism and elements of Taoism. In addition, in the Middle Ages, the influence of Indian culture was noticeable, and later, after the colonization of Vietnam by the French, the French. This was reflected, in particular, in the architecture of many cities, especially Ho Chi Minh City. In the second half of the 20th century, with the coming to power of the communists, many elements of culture began to be borrowed from the Soviet Union.

Vietnamese literature has richest history- starting from ancient folklore, including the legend of the Dragon Sovereign Lak Long Kuan, the Muong epic "The Birth of Water and the Birth of the Earth" and to books of the 20th century, similar in theme to European literature. The most significant writers in the history of Vietnam worked in modern times - Nguyen Chai in the 15th century, Nguyen Binh Khiem in the 16th century and Nguyen Dhu at the turn of the 18th-19th centuries. Nguyen Chai is one of the first major Vietnamese writers, as well as an outstanding statesman and philosopher. Nguyen Binh Khiem was an outstanding poet, close in outlook to Taoism, and Nguyen Du, who wrote the poems "The Lamentations of a Tortured Soul" and "The Tale of Kieu", is as significant a figure in Vietnam as Pushkin is in Russia.

Vietnamese folk music is quite original. A large number of vocal genres can surprise you, and among the main musical instruments one can single out the amazing disc-like guitar, which can be either four or five strings, as well as dan tam (three-string guitar), dan ni (violin with only two strings ) and om dit is a Vietnamese bamboo flute.

Theater is popular in Vietnam, presented in several interesting genres. Teo is an ancient folk theater, which at one time originated among the peasants who lived in the Red River Delta. Today it exists in the provinces of Thai Binh and Hai Hung. Theatrical performances include folk music and the use of traditional folklore stories.

Vietnamese opera is called Tuong. Tuong originated in a courtly atmosphere and is considered a high theatrical genre that combines dance, music, pantomime, poetry, acrobatic arts and more. By the way, there are no decorations on the stage, and a heroic character is always in the center of the performance.

Particularly interesting is the water puppet theater, which has no analogues in the world. It also originated in the Red River Delta. The puppets move on the water during sunset, and all the action is accompanied by pleasant melodic music. The puppets are controlled by actors standing waist-deep in the water, hidden behind a bamboo screen, so that they have the opportunity to watch the puppets. The performances begin with the appearance of a boy doll Teu, who says: “Hello everyone! I don't need to introduce myself?"

Kitchen

Vietnam is a paradise for gourmets. The culinary traditions of this country are striking in their richness and variety of dishes and ingredients. Many recipes were borrowed from China, India and France, but it is by no means possible to say that Vietnamese cuisine is a clone of any of them.

The use of many sauces and seasonings is widespread in Vietnamese cuisine. In dishes prepared, by the way, only from fresh products, seasonings from garlic, onion and ginger root, as well as purely Vietnamese sauces "nuoc mam" and "nuoc cham" are often added. In Vietnam, various herbs and even bamboo are very popular, the young shoots of which are readily eaten.

The most popular foods used in Vietnamese cuisine are rice, seafood, pork, noodles, herbs and more.

Especially worth focusing on rice. This crop is one of the symbols of all of Southeast Asia, and Vietnam is the second largest exporter of rice in the world. In addition, Vietnam refused to grow genetically modified rice, so there is no doubt about the quality of the product. In every Vietnamese family, rice is the main dish on the table, but beyond that, it is part of countless of the most amazing and original recipes.

Vegetarian cuisine is also developed in Vietnam, which is explained, first of all, by Buddhist gastronomic traditions. Among Vietnamese non-meat dishes, rice with fried dou-fu bean curd and rau vegetables can be distinguished. In general, soy and products from it in Vietnamese cuisine replace dairy products, which are practically not used among the Vietnamese. There is, for example, a special soy milk called sya-dau-nan. Soy sauce is very popular.

Widely used are various fruits that grow in abundance in Vietnam. These are coconuts, durian, guava, lemons, lychee, Javanese apple, Siamese persimmon, papaya, rambutan and many other exotic fruits.

As for meat dishes, the Vietnamese usually eat familiar beef, pork and poultry meat. Various insects or reptiles are now considered rare delicacies that are not served in any restaurant.

In general, Vietnamese cuisine is rich in exotic meats. For example, you can taste boa constrictor meat, which is considered extremely useful. Or try a snake dish, which is a whole act like a ritual, which can really shock the especially impressionable. The waiter makes a small incision on a still living snake, then removes the heart from it and bleeds it. The person who ordered the dish eats a beating snake heart and drinks rice vodka mixed with snake blood. After that, vodka is used, already mixed with snake bile. After some time, a ready-made dish is served - snake meat fried with spices and nuts. The head of the snake is cut off during cooking so that the poison cannot get into the dish.

Among other exotics are dishes from field rats, from dogs, from cats (although there is an official ban on their use) and many other amazing ingredients.

Purchases

Shopping is an indispensable component of any holiday. Somewhere it is developed in such a way that it seems that there is nowhere to develop further, but somewhere in terms of purchases, everything is not in the best way. Vietnam is somewhere in the middle, with a bias towards the first group. Shopping here is not at the same level as in neighboring Thailand, but with an increase in the number of tourists, there are good reasons for quality development. Moreover, Vietnam has something to offer its guests.

Connection

For calls to other countries in Vietnam, there are special call centers, as well as street payphones. Guests staying in hotels have the opportunity to make calls directly from there, but this is quite expensive.

The international code for Vietnam is 84.

  • For calls from Vietnam to Russia, you need to dial: 007 - area code - subscriber number

Major city codes

There are no problems with cellular communications, since all three largest Russian operators — MTS, Beeline and Megafon — have agreements with Vietnamese companies. Vietnamese operators: MobiFone, VinaFone, S-Fone, G-Tel, Vietnamobile, Viettel Mobile. A SIM card from a Vietnamese operator costs about $5, which includes 30 minutes of talk time.

Useful Phones

In addition, almost all hotels have Internet access. Some of them have Wi-Fi. In large and resort cities there are many Internet cafes.

Safety

The crime rate in Vietnam, according to Interpol, is very low, as the country's political regime is quite successful in dealing with organized crime. Robberies on the streets or murders are extremely rare. One of the most serious crimes that a tourist can encounter in Vietnam is pickpocketing, which occurs more or less regularly. In this regard, it is recommended not to carry cash and documents in the back pockets of your trousers. The best option is to keep them in a hotel safe, and carry a small amount of money and a photocopy of your passport with you. In addition, tourists should be careful when calculating, as the Vietnamese are sometimes not averse to fooling visitors.

You need to be careful if you are dealing with local “priestesses of love”, who are often not averse to profiting from the wallets of their clients. Foreigners can play gambling games only in special establishments, and an attempt to involve local residents in them can result in criminal prosecution. Everything related to drugs is especially strictly punished - possession, distribution, use. In this case, the most severe punishments are applied, up to the death penalty. This is a traditional practice in Southeast Asia.

Tourists should exercise discretion during their holidays. In particular, this applies to the use of alcohol, since a tourist who has “overdone” in Vietnam can easily get into trouble, become a victim of a robbery, etc. When swimming, it is worth watching the ocean surf, which can become a source of danger. Between September and November, typhoons often approach Vietnam and severe flooding in some parts of the country.

As for health issues, before coming to Vietnam, you need to take care of the issue of obtaining medical insurance (regular or extended). You can also pay a fee to International SOS and use the medical services they provide in branches in Vietnam. The address in Hanoi is 31 Hai Ba Trung in the central part of the city. Phone - 9340555.

In the Vietnamese province, sanitary conditions are not very good - both in local hospitals and in hotels. The services of doctors are paid almost everywhere in cash only, and treatment under policies is carried out only in some metropolitan clinics. True, it is worth noting that prices in Vietnam are lower than in neighboring Thailand.

You need to be careful when ordering Vietnamese cuisine, which is quite unusual for Europeans because of its spiciness, abundance of spices and exotic products. If you overestimate your strength, then problems with the stomach and intestines are likely.

Where to stay

Vietnam will please all visitors with a large selection of accommodation options - there are not only many hotels and guesthouses, but also a wide range of prices, and the level of service is quite high. In addition, Vietnamese hotels have a unique Asian flavor that adds color to the whole holiday. In total, there are approximately 11 thousand hotels in Vietnam, while not experiencing a serious shortage of guests.

Cheap accommodation options are 2- and 3-star hotels, which are similar in quality to Turkish 3- and 4-star hotels, so many experts rightly point out that the class of Vietnamese hotels is somewhat underestimated. 2-star hotels are usually located in old 4-6-storey buildings, well finished inside. The rooms have a bath or shower with hot water, air conditioning, satellite TV and even a mini-bar. three-star hotels occupy more modern and large buildings, and the level of service and equipment in them is quite high. Prices in hotels of categories 2 and 3 stars - about 15-40 dollars per night.

An even more budget option are guesthouses, prices in which are often below $10, and the number of them in tourist places is truly huge. In Ho Chi Minh City, for example, many guesthouses and cheap hotels can be found in Pham Niu Lao, considered a backpacker area. True, it is not a fact that there will be hot water in cheap guesthouses and hotels.

In resort towns, in particular in Nha Trang, accommodation is likely to cost more than in the capitals. Many tourists come to these cities, who are poorly versed in the intricacies of the Vietnamese tour business and, moreover, are able to easily part with large sums of money. For such tourists, there are luxury hotels of 4 and 5 stars with their own pools, private beaches, etc.

For more economical lovers of Vietnamese beaches, there are many bungalows. True, the amenities in them are minimal, moreover, if the walls of the bungalow are bamboo, then mosquitoes can fly inside through the existing gaps. However, mosquito ointments may well correct the situation. In any case, the most vivid memories of a vacation in Vietnam almost always remain!
