Bb is an abbreviation in tourism. Abbreviations in English

OB (Only Bed) - hotel accommodation without meals. It may also be denoted NA (Not Available) , OR (Only room) , OA (Only Apartments) .
Hotel accommodation without meals- a good option for people who are not used to living on someone else's schedule. This option is also suitable for people who are picky about food or for gourmets who want to plunge into the national cuisine while traveling, eating in traditional colorful taverns or restaurants.

BB (Bed & Breakfast) - Only breakfast is included in the hotel rate.(usually this " Buffet"). However, the hotel may offer lunch and dinner for a fee.
This type of food is well suited for sightseeing tours. A hearty breakfast before the tour will give you a boost of energy and strength for the whole day. And if the tour starts earlier than breakfast at the hotel, you can ask the receptionist to collect lunch box(this must be done in advance) and have breakfast on the way. In long excursion programs, the organizers themselves provide lunch or dinner, while meals can be included in the cost of the excursion, or can be paid separately. And if you are going to spend most of your trip on excursions, then you should not overpay the hotel for food that you will not even try.

HB (half board) - half board. The price of the hotel includes breakfast and dinner.(usually this " Buffet"). However, the hotel may offer lunch for a fee.
This is the perfect option for a seaside holiday. You can spend the whole day from breakfast to dinner on the coast without worrying about missing lunch. Moreover, after a hearty breakfast in the heat, you don’t feel so hungry and you can have a bite of fruit, which are usually sold right on the beach.
It is worth noting that some hotels do not include drinks in dinner - you will have to pay for them. Very rarely, but still there is half board, which includes breakfast and lunch.

Hi all! When planning a vacation, tourists sometimes have questions: What kind of food system is in modern hotels? What is buffet, continental or american breakfast? What does RO BB HB FB AI UAI mean?

For a long time I myself was confused, I could not remember what letters denote breakfast, dinner, or a three-time diet. Therefore, I decided to write a short post, where I will decipher all these “hieroglyphs”, describe the possibilities of one or another option.

Modern hotels provide guests with a different concept of food. Before you is a brief table, in more detail each item will be deciphered below.

UAL (ultra inclusive)reinforced three meals a day with snacks -

Room only (RO) - translated means "only a room." Accordingly, food is not included in the price.

Bed breakfast (BB) - translates as "bed and breakfast." And breakfast at different countries or even hotels can be, both in the "buffet" system, and "continental" (CB), "American" (AB) or "English".

  • CB (Continental breakfast) - translates as "continental breakfast". Everything is modest: a cup of coffee or tea, toast, a bun, butter and jam.
  • AB (american breakfast) - differs from the continental only in the presence of hot dishes: scrambled eggs, sausages.

Half board (HB) - in Russian "half board". In some hotels you can choose: "breakfast dinner" or "breakfast lunch". Coffee, tea, water are usually included in the price, but in most hotels you can get them for free only during the meal. In other cases, payment is required.

Half board plus (HB +) - “half board plus”, differs from HB only in that some alcoholic drinks are included in the price. Usually locally produced and most often only at mealtimes.

Full board (FB) - translated "full board". The price includes breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus coffee, tea, water. The conditions are the same as in HB, only three meals a day.

Full board plus (FB), Extended half board (EXTFB) - “full board plus” or “extended board”, local alcoholic drinks are added to the previous concept.

All inclusive (AI) - translated means "all inclusive". The name fully justifies itself. This includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, intermediate meals: late breakfast, afternoon tea, late dinner, other snacks. Unlimited non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks throughout the day. As a rule, this food system implies the opportunity to eat from 6 am to 12 am.

Ultra inclusive (UAL) - "ultra all inclusive". Breakfast, lunch, dinner, with free access to A-lacarte restaurants (themed restaurants on site). Such a concept includes more choice and more variety in nutrition than AI. Of course, all drinks are included in the price.

Food regulations in hotels may be different. Most often, especially in resort areas, the concept of buffet food is widespread. The buffet is an opportunity to choose and arrange your own diet. With this system, dishes are arranged in the hall, and tourists themselves choose and put food on a plate.

As you know, without food - and not there, and not here. As well as without water, and for some - without something stronger. Especially away from home. Thus, when going on vacation or a business trip, you should responsibly approach the choice of a hotel according to such a criterion as the type of food.

In the description of hotels, the type of food is indicated by a letter abbreviation - for example, HB or FB. Let's look at what abbreviations are and what they mean.

NA (Not Available)- not available OB (Only Bed) or BO (Bed Only)- bed only (i.e. accommodation only), RO (Room Only)- Only room. These abbreviations in the "Food" column mean that at least in the basic version, the hotel will not offer you food - only accommodation. Sometimes food can be ordered additionally upon arrival, but it may not be available at all.

Accommodation-only hotels attract tourists with their price. However, before choosing this option, calculate how much food in cafes and restaurants will cost you for the entire stay. It often turns out that it is more profitable to immediately choose a hotel with meals. In well-known resorts, this type of food is very rare. It is more typical for small city hotels and apartments.

BB (Bed and Breakfast)- bed and breakfast. This type means that breakfast is included in the price. This option of food is most often offered by hotels in Europe, where sightseeing tourism is very developed. Such tours involve an early departure from the hotel, numerous excursions throughout the day and a late return to the hotel. In this case, it is more convenient to have lunch and dinner on the route. The BB option is also suitable for those who do not eat after 18.00, because dinner in hotels is usually served later.

There are several options for this type of food:

  • CBF (Continental Breakfast)- Continental breakfast. This is the easiest breakfast option. Usually tea or coffee, juice, buns, jam, butter, cheese are served. Most often, this type of breakfast is offered in France.
  • EBF (English Breakfast)- English breakfast. It consists of coffee or tea, juice, toast, butter, jam and, of course, scrambled eggs, porridge.
  • ABF (American Breakfast)- American breakfast. In addition to the usual tea or coffee, scones and jam, it includes scrambled eggs, bacon or sausages, pancakes with syrup, cereal or porridge, orange or grapefruit juice. Sometimes cold cuts, salads and a hot dish can be included.
  • BBF (Buffet Breakfast)- Buffet. With this option, you can take as much food as you like, but it is forbidden to take food out of the restaurant. The set of buffet products depends on the country and the star rating of the hotel. Of course, this type of breakfast is the most satisfying and favorite among tourists. And it is the most common, so it is often not specified in the description of the hotel: in this case, BB means bed and breakfast buffet.

You should be aware that if breakfast is included in the price, it is impossible to refuse it. That is, of course, no one will force you to eat, but money is not returned for a missed meal. Usually breakfast is served at seven in the morning. In case of early check-out from the hotel or departure for an excursion, you must notify the receptionist and they will collect a lunch package (juice, yogurt, sandwiches) or, if possible, organize breakfast earlier.

DNR (Dinner)- dinner. Like BB, a one-time meal option, meals can be organized as a buffet or a la carte. The buffet is usually presented with a variety of cold appetizers and salads, as well as one or two hot dishes. A fairly rare type of food.

BBL (Bed and Breakfast + Lunch)- breakfast + lunch. Option with two meals a day according to the buffet system, while the lunch menu differs from the morning menu, mainly due to the addition of soups. This type of food is more typical for non-resort destinations and is also offered infrequently.

BRD (Brunch Dinner)- Breakfast, turning into lunch, + dinner. This is a non-standard type of food, in which a long period of time is allotted for the morning meal (from morning until about noon). This option is especially convenient for skiers, so many hotels in winter resorts offer it. In addition to food, local non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks are provided free of charge.

HB (Half Board)- half board. Like the BBL option, this system involves two meals a day, but usually it is breakfast and dinner (buffet). It is extremely rare for hotels to offer to replace dinner with lunch; without any problems, this service is provided only in hotels in the UAE. With this type of meal, tea, coffee and water are provided free of charge for breakfast only. All drinks at dinner - for an additional fee, unfinished bottles of spirits are served at the next dinner. Each time you do not need to pay for the drinks you have drunk, it is enough for the waiter to tell the number of your room, and you will be provided with a total bill upon check-out from the hotel.

This food option is very common in 3* and 4* hotels. Such a system is also suitable for tourists who are planning short sightseeing trips, or for those who just have a bite to eat in a cafe on the beach as a lunch.

HB+ (Half Board Plus) or ExtHB (Extended Half Board)- extended half board. It differs from the standard HB in that, in addition to breakfast and dinner, the price includes local alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks throughout the day.

HBS (Half Board Superior)- High quality half board. Includes champagne upon arrival, breakfast, brunch, dinner and late dinner. Dinner is offered in the main restaurant (buffet system) or in the a la carte restaurant (a la carte menu). Local alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are offered free of charge at dinner, but in limited quantities.

FB (Full Board)- full board. This is three meals a day: breakfast, lunch and dinner (buffet). This option is indispensable for those who need to eat regularly, while not getting carried away with alcohol: all alcoholic and non-alcoholic (except a jug of water) drinks at lunch and dinner are offered for an additional fee.

FB+ (Full Board Plus) or ExtFB (Extended Full Board)- extended full board. It differs from the usual FB in that alcoholic drinks are offered free of charge during meals.

ALL, All or Al (All Inclusive)- all inclusive. The All Inclusive system means that, in addition to three meals a day, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks of local production are offered free of charge in unlimited quantities, as well as additional meals in the form of a second breakfast, afternoon snack, barbecue in bars, late dinner.

Many mistakenly believe that only 4- and 5-star hotels operate on the All Inclusive system. But often lower-level hotels also offer this type of food. The difference lies in the quantity and quality of free services. Undoubtedly, a buffet in a 5 * hotel will be more varied and of higher quality than in a 2-3-star hotel.

However, in hotels of the same star quality All Inclusive may vary. After all, it is also influenced by the level of training of cooks and service personnel and the importance attached to food by hotel management. It even happens that a 3-star hotel offers more varied and tasty food than a 4-star one (the same can be said about 4* and 5* hotels).

Expert commentary (Tusson Voyage company):

The All Inclusive type of food is the most widespread in Turkey, where most hotels operate on such a system. It is also characteristic of Tunisia, and in last years began to meet often in Egyptian hotels.

Their analogues of this type of food exist in the Caribbean (Mexico, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Bahamas). And here the quality of the offered products and especially drinks is noticeably superior to the Turkish and Egyptian options. After all, high-quality Cuban and Jamaican rum, Mexican tequila are considered local for this region ...

In Europe, the All Inclusive type of food is found in the south - in Italy, Spain, Greece, Cyprus, Montenegro ... Recently, it has become more widespread here. The European All Inclusive food system is noticeably different from the Turkish one and is more like a full board with added local soft drinks and alcoholic drinks.

The classic version of All Inclusive has already been developed both in the direction of simplification, and vice versa. In the first case, this Mini All Inclusive- mini all inclusive. The system offers three meals a day (usually buffet style) and locally produced drinks with meals. At other times, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are limited.

The type of food has become a richer All Inclusive option UAL, UAI (Ultra All Inclusive)- ultra all inclusive. In this system, 24-hour meals and imported alcoholic beverages are also included in the price. The choice of such drinks is usually limited, and in bars, elite brands of wines and cognacs are offered for an additional fee.

Only the most luxurious and fashionable hotels operate under the Ultra All Inclusive system. The variety and choice of dishes here is huge, the quality is excellent. Often, dishes are prepared right in front of visitors.

Some hotels, in addition to the usual buffet, offer a la carte restaurant services. This is a small restaurant with a festive atmosphere, where you order from the menu and you are served by a waiter. As a rule, such restaurants are themed: fish, barbecue, Chinese, Italian, Mexican, etc. Drinks are offered of a higher class than in a regular restaurant and bars. The number of free visits to such restaurants should be checked with the hotel administrator.

Sometimes, in addition to the gastronomic component itself, hotels include in the Ultra All Inclusive system a number of additional bonuses that are not related to meals: individual procedures in SPA centers, flowers in the room, additional entertainment on the beach, etc. Each hotel has its own set of included services. For this reason, there are many varieties of the Ultra All Inclusive system: Super All Inclusive, VIP All Inclusive, Deluxe All Inclusive, Elegance All Inclusive, High Class All Inclusive etc.

As you can see, food in hotels can be very different. And it is important to make the right choice, so as not to be disappointed later. When choosing the type of food, first decide how you imagine the rest itself. Are you planning sightseeing trips, frequent trips to the city, or do you prefer passive relaxation by the pool with a glass of wine?

Keep in mind that everyone has different eating habits. It is enough for someone to eat thoroughly once a day, and the rest of the time to be content with snacks. Someone is accustomed to fully eat three times a day. And someone feels the need to refresh himself in the middle of the night, especially if he is awake at this time.

The choice of type of food also depends on gender. Men are more willing to choose All Inclusive, where not only food, but also alcohol is offered in abundance. Girls, fearing extra pounds, prefer half board. It is more difficult to make a choice if you are going on vacation with the whole family and it is necessary to take into account the interests of all its members. Going on vacation with children, do not forget that they need good nutrition. Most 5-star hotels with the ALL and UAL system offer a separate children's and diet menu.

Before booking a hotel, look for reviews from other travelers about the hotel and its cuisine. Of course, absolutely everyone cannot like the same food, but if there are a lot of negative reviews, this should alert you. Low-quality, and simply too exotic food can ruin your vacation(or a business trip, worse). Do not forget, nutrition is something that directly affects your health and what is better not to save on.

"Healthy eating" is an important (and for many, the most important) component of a successful holiday. Alas, there are no standards that allow you to be sure that in the hotels you have chosen we will be fed "to satiety", tasty and varied, does not exist. Of course, any tourist today is aware that the majority of Turkish hotels leave having noticeably recovered, but the French are unlikely to provide you with such an opportunity. Although, in any case, the choice of dishes in a 5 * hotel will obviously be higher than in a 3 * one.

Most often, the types of food in hotels are indicated in Latin letters (BB, HB, FB) - such abbreviations can be found both in the tour description and in the catalog where the hotels themselves are presented.

Meals BB (Bed&Breakfast)

BB means that you will only get breakfast at the hotel. Usually, this option is offered for sightseeing tours or business trips. A continental breakfast (usually this is what is served in 2 * -3 * hotels) is most often not rich in some thinly sliced \u200b\u200bsausage and cheese, a bagel with jam, a small package of yogurt, coffee. If this is a "buffet" (known throughout the world as a "buffet"), then vegetable and fruit salads, several types of pastries, boiled eggs are added to them. In high-level hotels, you can already count on hot sausages and scrambled eggs. Mandatory for breakfast and juice, which is usually poured from the machine, but almost certainly it turns out to be a highly diluted concentrate.

It is important to note that in a hotel of any level, breakfast is included in the price of accommodation and it is impossible to refuse it. Usually breakfast is served no later than 7 am, but if you leave for the airport or for an excursion earlier, you need to warn the porter - you will be served breakfast early (though without a hot dish) or they will give you a lunch package with you.

Power HB (Half-Board)

HB - half board, that is, breakfast and dinner, the most popular type of food in almost all resorts, with the exception of Turkey, which loves to "include everything." Breakfast in this case is usually a traditional buffet, dinner can be both a buffet and a salad bar with some selection of hot dishes according to the menu. Any drinks in this case are paid (this also applies to plain water, if it is brought not in a jug, but in glass bottles) and are not cheap. True, if you order a bottle of wine at dinner and do not drink it entirely, then it will be left for you for the next days. You do not need to pay for drinks every time, you just call the room number to the waiter, and upon departure you receive from the porter an invoice for all days (which we recommend to check carefully!).

Evening alcoholic drinks are especially expensive in hotels in Egypt. In addition, their quality is doubtful, so it’s better to limit yourself to soft drinks at dinner (only without ice, it is made from local unboiled water here!), And buy stronger drinks, for example, in the Hurghada version of the memorable currency "Birch", which is called " Pyramid".

Power FB (Full Board)

FB is full board, which in our childhood was called "three meals a day". Lunch, like dinner, in this case can be both buffet and à la carte, but in any case, drinks during the day and in the evening are again paid separately. If you have the opportunity to choose between "half board" and "boarding", tourists usually choose the first, because in Spain, Greece or Cyprus it is not a problem to find a good tavern near the hotel even in high season. Unfortunately, not all hotels can replace a hotel lunch with dinner or vice versa, although UAE hotels provide such a service.

System AL (All Inclusive)

All Inclusive "all inclusive" is a favorite Russian entertainment in Turkish resorts, which is much less common in other countries. In inexpensive hotels 2 * -3 * it involves the usual three meals a day with a standard choice of dishes (say, in the evening it is 2-3 types of soup, 3 types of the second one) and 1-2 bars that "let go" tea and coffee for free during the day, mineral water, cola and local spirits.

The set of local liquor is the same everywhere: grape vodka rakia (in Turkish "crayfish"), which is drunk diluted with water, as a result of which it acquires a milky color, local cognac (konjak), a drink under the strange name VoTka, dry red wine in principle, not bad, but without "frills" and, of course, national pride beer "Efes". Of course, in these hotels you can also order imported alcohol but for an additional fee.

All other types of All Inclusive, offered by Turkish hotels under the name "Ultra", "Maximum", "Imperial", etc. represent almost round-the-clock food (and drinking, including imported alcohol). Tourists who find themselves in a Turkish "club" hotel can visit consecutively two breakfasts, lunch, a "tea" afternoon snack, dinner and a "late soup" after a disco during the day, and enjoy sandwiches, pizza, ice cream and sweets in between.

The variety and choice of dishes here often exceed reasonable limits, the quality is excellent, especially since in the best hotels many dishes are prepared right in front of you. If you wish, you can book a table in advance and spend the evening not at a common buffet, but in an Italian or Japanese restaurant located on site. As for imported alcohol, usually its choice is limited to several varieties of whiskey, martini, gin. However, often in such a hotel they warn that several types of elite alcohol (expensive cognacs, wines) are offered for an additional fee. By the way, often in all-inclusive hotels they ask you to name the room number and sign on the receipt even when ordering "free" alcohol. You should not be afraid of this, it is simply one of the forms of control over the work of waiters.

RO BB HB FB AI UAI - deciphering the types of food in hotels. Meals RO (room only), RR (room rate), OB (Only Bed), AO (Accommodation Only) such abbreviations in the hotel mean accommodation in a room without meals. The most common is RO. Meals BB (bed breakfast), means "bed and breakfast", i.e. when staying at the hotel on the BB system, a bed in a room and breakfast are provided.
